HomeMy WebLinkAbout1987-10-15 EC MINUTES• • • /10 ELECTION COMMISSION October 15, 1987 The meeting was called to order at 5:00 p.m. by Chairman Nilsen. Present: Kollath, Watson, Nilsen, Crow Absent: Bul 1 Also present: Gary R. Higbee, Director of Finance John Schafer, Information Services Manager 9 £ Mr. Higbee was present to introduce the proposed transmittal of voting data on election night via electronic equipment. He explained how the data would be entered into the personal computer, then transmitted and projected electronically to the Council Chambers. Costs were discussed. Mr. Higbee and Mr. Schafer plan to see some demonstrations of the process and explore specific costs. That information will be transmitted to the Commission members for further consideration. It was decided that the manual tally board will be utilized on election night even if it proves feasible to proceed with Mr. Higbee's proposal. The election day schedule, as recommended by the City Clerk, was discussed. KOLLATH MOVED, Ayes: Nays: Absent: SECONDED BY WATSON, TO APPROVE THE ELECTION DAY SCHEDULE. Kollath, Watson, Nilsen, Crow None Bull The nomination petitions for Council candidates were inspected and discussed. KOLLATH MOVED, CANDIDATES. Ayes: Nays: Absent: SECONDED BY WATSON, TO CERTIFY THE BALLOT QUESTIONS AND Kollath, Watson, Nilsen, Crow None Bull The City Clerk invited the Commission members to attend the Judges' Training Session on October 30, 1987. One session commences at 3:30 p.m. followed by a session at 5:30 p.m. The new voting machines will be demonstrated at both sessions. A report was given on the Election Judges appointments. No problems are foreseen at this time. There is a pool of approximately 28 Alternates Judges. The method of reporting absentee voter ballots was discussed. It was agreed that absentee votes would be reported separately from the precinct votes. The notice to all registered voters of precincts which had been affected by the redistricting last May was discussed. Mrs. Crow explained some of the problems which had resulted from this process and stated that it would have been more advantageous to send the notice addressed to "Registered Voter at ___ address " instead of using Arapahoe County's labels addressed to the actual registered voter's name. -1 - WATSON MOVED, SECONDED BY KOLLATH, TO ADJOURN THE MEETING. Approval of $80 expenditure to rent equipment for electronic Tally Board for election night on November 3, 1987: Ayes: Nilsen, Kollath, Bull, Watson, Crow Nays: None Expenditure approved. -2 - • • •
