TO: Election Commission Members
FROM: Patricia H. Crow, City Clerk
DATE: February 9, 1989
SUBJECT: COMMISSION MEETING -FEBRUARY 16, 1989
Just a reminder of our meeting on February 16 at 4:00 p.m. in the Ernie
Anderson Conference Room, Englewood Public Libary.
In addition to welcoming our new Commission Member, Ms. Janice Walters (see
enclosed letter), we will need to elect a Chairman for the Commission. As
some of you may know, Hazel Nilsen decided not to seek reappointment and her
term of office expired February 1st.
As an update to the petitions which were to be circulated by the police
officers calling for a Special Election in March for certain Charter changes,
the petitions were not filed with my office before the deadlines established
by State statute. So it appears the Special Election is off, at least for the
time being. I will keep you posted if the situation changes.
Enclosed is a tentative agenda for our meeting on the 16th. Please call me if
you wish anything else added to the agenda. I hope all of you will be present
to meet Ms. Walters.

As a member of the Election Commission, I wish to welcome you as a newly
appointed member. City Council approved your appointment at their regular
Council meeting on February 6. The four-year appointment is effective
immediately and continues through February 1, 1993.
I am enclosing several items which pertain to your responsibilities as a
member of the Commission:
Home Rule Charter -Artile II pertains to elections in particular
Englewood Municipal Code -§1-8, §2-1, and §3-2 (not in its entirety)
Colorado Municipal Election Code
Colorado Manual of Election Procedures.
The next regular municipal election is November 7, 1989, and it is necessary
for the Commission to meet often during an election year. Our meetings are
called as needed based on the election calendar which is established prior to
the regular municipa l election.
On March 1, 1989, we are conducting an election for the City's classified
employees to select a Career Service Board member to represent them in Career
Service System matters . I am enclosing information concerning that election
which was previously supplied to the other Commission members. The Commission
is meeting on February 16 to finalize the details of this election. Please
plan to join us then. Our meeting will be in the Ernie Anderson Conference
Room at the Englewood Public Library, and will commence at 4:00 p.m.
Give me a call at 761-1140, ext. 788, if you have any questions about your
appointment or the enclosures. I am looking forward to working with you as a
member of the Commission.
