HomeMy WebLinkAbout1996-10-02 CAC MINUTESCity of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission Minutes of October 2, 1996 The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to order at 5:50pm by Co-Chairman LaPorta at the Englewood public Library, E. Anderson Room . Members Present: LaPorta Kreiger , Donelson, Krueger, Habenicht, Black, ex officio Members Absent: ·Spangenberg, Krueger, Styes, Milette, Curley The minutes from the September 4 meeting ~ill be approved at a later date due to a quorum not being met. Council liaison Habenicht reported on the telemarketing that took place in September. Habenicht stated the first day went well. Habenicht added it was difficult to find volunteers. It was suggested Donnelson obtain a list of service organizations from the Chamber of Commerce and talk to them about getting support. Rosemary asked to have the information forwarded to her. It was announced that $2,071 had been raised for the feasibility study. LaPorta Kreiger indicated a meeting would be taking place in the near future with herself, Spangenberg, Ron Straca and Harold Celva from EDDA to discuss location of the Cultural Arts Center. LaPorta stated Harold Celva was also trying to find a location for the auction. The Commission discussed a date for the auction. Members agreed Saturday, October 26th did not offer enough time to organize. LaPorta Kreiger briefed Commission on the tasks involved with the auction including collecting the art, notifying the public and locating a large enough facility. LaPorta Kreiger indicated she would like a 5,000 sq. ft. facility. Habenicht questioned such a large facility . LaPorta Kreiger stated she wanted a large facilit y to allow adequate space to show the art including ceramics, quilts , etc . It was added a place to store the donated art until the auction is also necessary since the objects should not be moved around. LaPorta Kreiger noted locked doors were necessary . Di s cussion followed in regards to available sites , date, and advertising. LaPorta Kreiger explained Harold Celva was pursuing Colonial Bank for a site. Black responded he would also talk to a representative from Colonial Bank. Black discussed special meetings and sub-committees with commission members. Black stated he had talked to the City Attorney and was told th e public needs to be informed of these meetings. Black asked the Administrative office be notified in advance so it can advertise the meetings. LaPorta Kreiger asked if the liaisons to the Cultural Arts Commission had been contacted . Debby Severa indicated she had, but many of them had other commiunents that eve ning. Black made note that the agenda and minutes are sen t out a week prior to the next meeting. If commission members had additions or attachments, they need to have those to Debby prior to the week before. Habenicht distributed Cultural Affairs Commission Calendar of Events.
