CALL TO ORDER City of Englewood CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION Minutes of April 6, 2011 The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to order at 5:48pm by Chairperson Bertoluzzi at the Civic Center City Council Conference Room. Present: Absent: Also Present: Eric Bertoluzzi , Chairperson Donna Schnitzer, Vice Chairperson Karen Kenney, Commission Member Maggie Stewart, Commission Member Tamara Emmanuel , Commission Member Muhammad Hakeem, Alternate Member Jerrell Black, ex officio Heather Bartunek, Commission Member Jill Wilson, City Council Liaison Joshua Mangino, Youth Member Mary Lynn Baird, Englewood Schools Liaison Kate Dulaney, Englewood Schools Liaison Joe Sack, Recreation Manager Tim Vacca, Museum of Outdoor Arts Representative Brian Ewert, Englewood Schools Superintendent (left at 6:20pm) II. REVIEW OF AGENDA Bertoluzzi asked if there were any changes or additions to the agenda. There were none . III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Bertoluzzi asked if there were any changes or corrections to the minutes of March 2, 2011. There were none. The minutes were approved as presented. IV. INTRODUCTION OF NEW MEMBERS AND GUESTS Bertoluzzi introduced Englewood Schools Superintendent Brian Ewert. V. NEW BUSINESS Discussion was turned over to Mr. Ewert who gave a PowerPoint presentation on the declining budget for Englewood Schools and its long range plans. Mr. Ewert left following discussion . Commission Member Stewart informed the Commission that the Englewood Schools District Art Show will open tomorrow evening. Stewart encouraged commission members to attend the art show. VI. OLD BUSINESS Commission Member Kenney asked commission members if there was still an interest in hosting the May Cultural Arts Commission meeting at Cafe 180. Commission Member Schnitzer stated that the restaurant is not open in the evenings and she feels that the Commission would be putting the restaurant out by having them come back in for the meeting. Schnitzer suggested that the Commission go on a Saturday when the restaurant would already be open and then attend an Englewood Arts concert. Discussion followed . Commission members concurred to not hold the May meeting at Cafe 180. Recreation Manager Joe Sack gave an update on the Community Garden. VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS Commission members were told that an updated copy of Art in Public Places Guidelines and Fact Sheet was included in the packet. In regard to an update on Englewood Arts, Bertoluzzi thanked Alternate Member Muhammad Hakeem for attending the March Englewood Arts Board meeting. Schnitzer gave an update on the March Parks and Recreation Commission meeting. VIII. UPCOMING EVENTS Bertoluzzi announced that the next Englewood Arts concert will be Extasis Tango Ensemble on Saturday, April 9th at 2pm in Hampden Hall. IX. DIRECTOR'S CHOICE There were no items for Director 's Choice. X. COMMISSION MEMBERS CHOICE Hakeem spoke in regard to the City of Englewood needing a Cultural Arts Center. Bertoluzzi told Hakeem that was the reason he joined the Commission ten years ago and why he has put quite a bit of heart and soul into it. MOA Representative Tim Vacca distributed information on the Museum of Outdoor Arts Design and Build Project. Commission Member Tammie Emmanuel stated that at the moment, ArtReach has offered to do a booth at Funfest. XI. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 6:45pm. D. Severa, Recording Secretary
