CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
Minutes of June 1, 2011
The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called
to order at 5:46pm by Director Black at the Civic Center City Council Conference Room .

II. Review of Agenda

Black asked if there were any changes or additions to the agenda. There were none .
Ill. Approval of Minutes
Due to there not being a quorum , approval of the May 4, 2011 minutes would be deferred to
the June meeting.
IV. Introduction of Guests
James Wallace with David Taylor Dance Theatre was introduced.
V. New Business
Black informed the Commission that the City's contract with David Taylor Dance Theatre
requires David Taylor to meet with the Cultural Arts Commission two times a year to
discuss the free performances that they are required to present in Englewood per year .
Mr. Wallace told the Commission that last season was artistically the best in the history of
David Taylor. Mr . Wallace reviewed the shows planned for the upcoming season including
a Halloween show in October, Rainforest Odyssey in November, two performances of
Nutcracker in a Nutshell in December, 2's & 3's in February and a contemporary show in
March. Commission Members were told that David Taylor is finalizing the dates . Mr.
Wallace explained that the Rainforest Odyssey and Nutcracker in a Nutshell are regular
shows for David Taylor because audiences look forward to them year after year. City
Council Liaison Jill Wilson asked if the Halloween show is geared towards children. Mr.
Wallace explained that David Taylor tries to have shows for both children and adults and
the Halloween show will be for both . Commission Member Bartunek asked how attendance
has been for their shows in the past. Mr . Wallace stated that the shows do well , especially
because they are free and they have been able to build up a regular crowd.
Black thanked Mr. Wallace for attending tonight 's meeting . Mr. Wallace thanked the
Comm ission and left.
VI. Old Business
There was no update for the comm u nity garden. W ilson asked Black in regard to art for the
garden. Black reported that he had met with Maggie Stewart and Donna Schn itze r to
discuss the process for placing art in the commun ity garden. Black stated that Stewart and
Schnitzer are putting together some information to bring back to Parks and Recreat ion .
VII. Committee Reports
There was no update for Publ ic Art or Englewood Arts .
In rega rd to an update on the Parks and Recreation Commission , Black told the
Commiss ion that Joyce Musgrove has been promoted to Recrea t ion Progra m s and Facility
Supervisor for the Malley Senior Recreation Center.
VIII. Upcoming Events
Wilson announced the upcoming Eats and Beats event that will be held on Saturday, June
25 1
h from noon to 1 Opm . Wilson noted that the event is be i ng hosted by the South
Broadway Bus iness Improvement D istrict.

There no items for Director's Choice.
X. Commission Member's Choice
Commission Member Emmanuel d iscussed possible vendors that she has acqu ired for
Funfest.

The meeting was adjourned at 6:15pm .
