Cultural Arts Commission
Minutes of February 5, 1997
The regularly scheduled meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to
order at 5:47pm by Co-Chairman Spangenberg at the Englewood Public Library, Perrin Room.

Due to a quorum not being met, the minutes of the January 8, 1997 Cultural Arts Commission will
be approved at the next meeting.
Black introduced Gary Hultberg, the new Recreation Service Manager. Black stated Hultberg had
been with North Jeffco for the last ten years, and the City of Wheat Ridge prior to that. Black also
welcomed the new Cultural Arts Commission members including Corrine Lindsey , and Rose Peterson and
Cassie Gootee , the two new youth members .
Spangenberg an no unced that Joan Miletto and Donnel Curley had resigned from the Cultural Arts
Commission. The City Manager's office will be notified of their vacancies in order to advertise for
replacements.
Spangenberg explained that in August she had spoke in regards to goals and objectives for the
Cultural Arts Commis sion. An outline was distributed with those goals and objectives . Spangenberg
recently revised that outline and distributed it to the members. The Commission members were asked to
review the new outline for the next meeting .
Commission member Styes arrived at 6:06pm.
Co-Chair LaPorta Kreiger discussed the Auction set for April 26, 1997 . LaPorta Kreiger
explained that it was decided at the December sub-committee meeting to postpone the Auction due to the
lack of time and the resignation of three Commission members . Kreiger reported that the auction would be
held at the Bank One bui lding and not the Englewood Recreation Center as previously planned.
The Commission discussed opportunities to get Englewood High School students involved with
the auction. Gootee and Peterson would relay information to the school. Discussion followed in regards to
the donation of items, youth art and pre-event details.
A sub-committee meeting will be held on Thursday, February 13, 1997 at 5 :45pm at LaPorta Art
Gallery to discuss further details on the auction .
Black reported that the next Cultural Arts Commission meeting would be held at the Englewood
Recreation Center Conference Room. Black hoped to continue meeting at the Englewood Recreation
Center. The Englewood Public Library would continue to be reserved in case of a large group.
Black reported that he had spoken to Harold Celva last year in regards to Art in the Park. Black
explained that in 1996, the Englewood Parks and Recreation Before and After School program parti c ipants
had painted 4 X 4 boards which were displayed at the Englewood Plaza. Celva had hoped to continue the
event in 1997, possibly making it a full-day event.
Spangenberg suggested having an orientation for the Cultural Arts Commission members. The
orientation would explain how the Commission operates, the function of the Cultural Arts Commission, etc.
Spangenberg hoped there was a possibility that the City Attorney could attend the orientation. Black stated
he would talk to City and Department staff for suggestions and ideas.
Black reminded the Commission members the impo~ce of applying for eligibility through .
SCFD. LaPorta Kreiger stated she would talk to Jane Hansberry for information. Habenicht suggested to
meet with Alice Lamain on the SGffi Advisory Board.
Spangenberg reported she was 'working with EFOT (Englewood Focusing on Tomorrow). Due to
EFOT being a private organization, the Cultural ~ Commission would have access to funding.
The meeting was adjourned at 7 :08pm.
