CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
Minutes of May 5, 2010

II.
The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to
order at 5:47pm by Recreation Manager Gary Hultberg at the Civic Center City Council

REVIEW OF AGENDA
There were no changes to the agenda .
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Due to there not being a quorum , the approval of the April 7, 2010, minutes were postponed until
the June meeting .
IV. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS
There were no guests present.
V. NEW BUSINESS
There were no items for New Business .
VI. OLD BUSINESS
Commission Member Schnitzer gave an update on the community garden. Schnitzer reported that
fifty volunteers worked at the garden last Saturday edging, building plots, leveling and adding
compost. Schnitzer reminded the Commission that the Grand Opening will be Saturday, May 15th at
9am. Discussion followed .
MOA Representative, Tim Vacca, gave a report on the first Artabout Englewood committee
meeting . Vacca told commission members that committee includes himself, Commission Members
Bartunek and Kenney in addition to Parks and Recreation staff Cheryl Adamson and Englewood

A11s representative Meredith Wortzel. Vacca told the Commission that the committee agreed that
there is not a need for another event like Artabout so they are instead looking at a festival which will
include a11ists in addition to community members participating in art activities. Vacca stated that the
committee will be meeting the first Wednesday of every month and that the first event would not be
until 2011. Discussion followed. Schnitzer asked where the e vent would take place. Vacca replied
that it would start out on Englewood Parkway and utilize the amphitheater. Vacca also stated that it
would take place on a Saturday and possibly pair up with the Parks and Recreation Amateur Art
Show . Youth Member Nathan Barragan asked if it would be open to high school students. Vacca
replied yes .
COMMITTEE REPORTS
There were no updates for Public A11 or Englewood Arts .
Schnitz er gave an update on the April Parks and Recreation Commission meeting .
VIII. UPCOMING EVENTS

Vacca informed the Commission that local artist Craig Marshall Smith has donated a piece of art to
MOA which MOA hopes to display in the Civic Center Atrium. Vacca also reported that the City of
Englewood has officially donated to MOA Todd Siler's Wal-Mart Art Wall. Vacca told the
Commission that MOA will begin refurbishing the piece next month .
DIRECTOR'S CHOICE
Hultberg offered copies of the newly released Summer Activity Guides . Hultberg told
commission members that this will be the last issue of the Malley Senior Activities Guide due to
the Depat1ment combining the two guides into one publication. Hultberg also explained that the
Guide will no longer be mailed in bulk and will only be mailed to those people who have
requested to be added on to the mailing list by completing the attached postcard on the Recreation
Guide.
Hultberg invited commission members down to Hampden Hall following tonight's meeting to
view the new artwork for the Hampden Hall Art Wall project.
X. COMMISSION MEMBERS CHOICE
Barragan spoke in regard Englewood High School 's Poetry/ Art Appreciation Night and possibly
using the Civic Center amphitheater for next year 's performances.
Alternate Member Tammie Emmanuel discussed her recent fundraising project and how the
Commission could do something similar.
Vacca reported that Commission Member Stewart is unable to serve on the Art Festival committee .
