I. CALL TO ORDER
City of Englewood
CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
Minutes of February 3, 2010
The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to
order at 5:45pm by Chairperson Bertoluzzi at the Civic Center City Council Conference Room .

There were no changes to the agenda .
III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Bertoluzzi asked if there were any changes or corrections to the minutes of
December 2, 2009. There were none. The minutes were approved as presented.

6, 2010. There were none. The minutes were approved as presented.
IV. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS
There were no guests present.

OLD BUSINESS
Discussion turned to an update on the community garden. Commission Member Schnitzer
reported that City Council approved using $15,000 from the Open Space Funds for the community
garden. Schnitzer told the Commission that Susan Bayless from Keep Englewood Beautiful is
now on the Steering Committee. Schnitzer also reported that she will be attending the KEB
meeting next Tuesday to give an update on the community garden. Bertoluzzi asked what the
money from Open Space would be used for. Schnitzer explained that the funds will be used for
fencing, a shed, amending the soil, etc . City Council Liaison Wilson stated that they have also
received $10 ,000 in grants. Recreation Manager Hultberg told the Commission that the money
received through grants will be used first and then they will use the Open Space funds if needed.
Wilson reported that building of the garden will begin the end of February/first of March and
ready for planting the beginning of May. Commission members were told that the soil tests came
back good. Bertoluzzi asked who would be the Project Director. Hultberg explained that the
Steering Committee will in charge of day-to-day aspects of the garden with help from the City and
DUG. Di scussion followed .
VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS
Hultberg informed the Commission that new signage for the Cone Flowers was installed today
and includes a lexan polycarbonate cover. Hultberg told the Commission that the cost of the
signage was $103.00 which Community Development paid half.
In regard to la st month 's decision to use money from the one percent art fund to purchase a piece
of Olga Wolosyn 's artwork, Hultberg reported that two pieces of artwork were purchased that will
be hung in Hamdpen Hall. Discussion followed if City Council needed to approve use of the one
percent art fund for the purchase of the artwork .
Bertoluzzi told the Commission that Englewood Arts members feel that there should be
permanent plaques for the artwork and asked if funding from the one percent art fund could be
used for that. Hultberg noted that cuITently the artwork in Hampden Hall is identified by a
refeITal li st. Bertoluzzi explained that because the two pieces are pe1manent, the members of
Englewood Arts felt that identification of the artwork should also be permanent. Hultberg stated
that he would resea rch different ways to identify the pieces and bring the info1mation back to the
Commission .
There was no update for Englewood Arts.
Hultberg gave an update on the January Parks and Recreation Commission meeting .
VIII. UPCOMING EVENTS
Bertoluzzi announced the upcoming Englewood Arts concert "Schoenberg 's Transfigured Nig ht" on
February 7 th at 2pm in Hampden Hall.
IX. DIRECTOR'S CHOICE
There were no items for Director 's Choice .
X. COMMISSION MEMBERS CHOICE
Commission Member Bartunek repo1ted that she has been working on the guidelines for the
Hampden Hall Artwall. Hultberg noted that the plan is to leave the existing art up thru the 20 l 0
concert series and then take it down. Schnitzer asked in regard to the Juried Art Show. Bertoluzzi
stated that there will not be a show this spring.

Hultberg distributed the new Parks and Recreation Activity Guides; noting that new to the guide is •
"green pages".

Schnitzer reported that she has been taking photographs of the community garden site to document
progress being made .
