Cultural Arts Commission
Minutes of March 4, 1998
The regularly scheduled meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was
called to order at 5:45pm by Chairperson Wolosyn at the Englewood Recreation Center, Conference
Room.

Chairperson Wolosyn asked if there were any changes or additions to the minutes of February 4,
1998. There were none. A motion was made and seconded that the minutes be approved as presented.
The motion passed unanimously .
Commission members discussed a working calendar. It was decided that Commission member
Warner would direct the development of a working calendar at the April meeting.
Commission member LaPorta Kreiger arrived at 5:52pm .
Chairperson Wolosyn announced she had recently attended a Cultural Arts Council meeting.
Wolsoyn thought that a Cultural Arts Commission member should be attending those meetings. It was
suggested members could alternate.
Commission member LaPorta Kreiger was updated on the progress of Art at the Station.
Funding was discussed.
Commission member Tomasso announced the Englewood Public Schools art show, Celebrate
the Arts , at the Englewood Public Library. The display will be from March 5th_30 1h.
Vice Chairperson Spangenberg spoke in regards to the Arts to Zoo Home Page on the Internet.
Spangenberg felt it would be advantageous to have a link. Recreation Manager Hultberg stated that
Carol McGuigan, Program Administrator for Cultural Arts, uses the SCFD link . Hultberg said that he
would have City staff look in on the project. Discussion followed regarding using the Englewood -
Herald and Channel 8 for advertising upcoming events and programs.
Commission member Lindsey arrived at 6: 16pm.
Discussion began on Art in Public Places . Wolosyn reported that advertising for the art contest
would begin in May and run through October 30, 1998. Criteria for the contest was discussed .
Council member Habenicht announced the purchase of the Gothic theater by the City of
Englewood. Habenicht explained that the building was up on foreclosure.
In regards to Art in Public Places, Chairperson Wolosyn reported that a meeting was held with
the City Attorney to discuss contingencies for art on loan to the City of Englewood. It was determined
that the artist would be liable for any damages done to work while the City of Englewood would be
responsible for the maintenance and upkeep of the pedestal and surrounding area.
Commission member Krueger left the meeting at 6:40pm.
Funding for the Art at the Station contest was discussed.
Liaison O'Leary left the meeting at 6:45pm.
Commission members were informed that the Feasibility Study was revamped and expected to
be mailed out in the near future . Commission members were informed that staff from the Department of
Parks and Recreation met with the Foley's architect to discuss needs for the Foley's building/Cultural
Arts Center. Recreation Commission members agrreed that the Feasibility Study should be looked at as
more of a market analysis. Discussion ensued.
In regards to the Englewood High School Environment Club trip that Youth member Peterson
spoke of, Chairman Wolosyn reported that she had been in contact with Hank Long, Director of the
Englewood Public Library. Wolosyn was told to speak to Mary Lou Tatum, Outreach Services
Librarian.
Wolosyn reported on progress with Art in Public Places. Wolosyn stated that she had looked at
some slides of artwork by interested artists. Wolosyn noted that a contract is currently being drawn up
by the City Attorney .
Commission member Lindsey thanked the Commission for the flowers that were sent to her.
The meeting was adjourned at 7 :20pm.
