CALL TO ORDER City of Englewood CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION Minutes of October 6, 1999 The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to order at 5:50pm by Chairperson Wolosyn at Englewood City Hall, Community Room. Present: Absent: Also Present: Olga Wolosyn, Chairperson Martha Warner, Vice Chairperson Eric Bertoluzzi, Commission Member Ray Tomasso, Commission Member Jerrell Black, ex officio Rosemary LaPorta, Commission Member Corrine Lindsey, Commission Member Janet Spangenberg, Commission Member Gary Hultberg, Recreation Manager Alex Habenicht, City Council Liaison Julie Grazulis, City Council Member (arrived at 5:58pm) Mary Lynn Baird, Liaison, Englewood School District LeighAnn Hoffhines, Communication Specialists (left at 7:10pm) Gary Sears, City Manager (arrived at 6:15pm/left at 7:15pm) APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairperson Wolosyn asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes of September 1, 1999, and September 15, 1999. Mary Lynn Baird corrected the spelling of her name, and stated that she was the art instructor at Clayton and Maddox Elementary Schools, and not Cherrelyn as stated in the minutes. Ms. Baird also noted that she was present at the Special Meeting on September 15, 1999. A motion was made to accept the minutes as amended. The motion passed unanimously. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS LeighAnn Hoffhines, Communications Specialist for the City Manager's Office was introduced. Ms. Hoffhines is responsible for the production of the City of Englewood Calendar, and is present to conduct the selection of artwork for the 2000 Calendar. IV. NEW BUSINESS Director Black discussed the presentation of the Cultural Arts Commission's Year End Report to City Council. Black explained that the October 18 , 1999 date would not work due to Recreation Manager Hultberg and himself being at the NRPA Congress in Nashville. Black stated that the presentation would be rescheduled and the date confirmed with Commission members. Discussion moved on to selection of artwork for the 2000 Calendar. Commission members viewed the entries and selected thirteen pieces of artwork. One piece of artwork was chosen per grade , Kindergarten through twelfth grade. Ms. Hoffhines thanked the Commission for their time. Council Liaison Habenicht spoke in regards to the possibility of the 2000 Calendar being the last calendar to be published. Gary Sears, City Manager, spoke in response to Habenicht's comments, stating that a committee of City Council members have had discussion about the funding for the calendar being used for more Englewood Citizen publications. Sears went on to explain that there has been no final decision and that it will be something that City Council could discuss. V. OLD BUSINESS Director Black reported that the Museum of Outdoor Arts and David Taylor agreements are scheduled to be brought to City Council on October 18 , 1999. Discussion moved on to Year End Report. Chairperson Wolosyn distributed an outline for the report and asked for Commission's input. Commission members gave their approval for Wolosyn to move forward with production of the report. Commission member Tomasso spoke in regards to the Book Arts League . Tomasso requested funding of $160.00 for the FDH Conference . Discussion followed. A motion was made by Commission member Bertoluzzi and seconded by Vice Chairperson Warner to give Ray Tomasso $160.00 for the FDH Conference. The motion was amended that Commission member Tomasso provide a report to the Cultural Arts Commission. The motion passed unanimously. Chairperson Wolosyn discussed the parade float for the Englewood Holiday Parade on November 6, 1999. Wolosyn explained her cconcept of the float. Commission members supported Wolosyn 's idea . VI. COMMITTEE REPORTS Commission member Tomasso asked about the opening show for the Little Dry Creek Sculpture Garden . Director Black explained that the show had been postponed until a decision was made in regards to the "Statuary" piece. Black stated that now that a decision has been made, staff will move forward with plans for the show. VII. ELECTION OF NEW OFFICERS Election of new officers would be postponed until the November meeting. IV. DIRECTOR'S CHOICE Director Black had no items for Director's Choice. V. COMMISSION MEMBERS CHOICE Council Liaison Habenicht announced that tonight would be her last meeting due to her City Council term expiring November 1, 1999. • • Recreation Manager Hultberg reported that he had received a call from a lad y whom home schooled. • The lady complimented the Little Dry Creek Sculpture Garden and was requesting more information on the artwork . • VI.
