CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
Minutes of October 20, 1999
CALL TO ORDER
The special meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to order at
5 :50pm by Chairperson Wolos y n at the Englewood Recreation Center, Conference Room .
Present: Olga Wolosyn, Chairperson
Absent:
Martha Warner, Vice Chairperson
Eric Bertoluzzi, Commission Member
Rosemary LaPorta, Commission Member
Janet Spangenberg, Commission Member
Ray Tomasso, Commission Member
Corrine Lindsey , Commission Member
Jerrell Black, ex officio
Also Present: Alex Habenicht, City Council Liaison
Julie Grazulis , City Council Member (arrived at 6:00pm)
Dave Lee , Manager of Open Space
II. CULTURAL ARTS CENTER
Chairperson Wolosyn briefed Commission members as to why the Special Meeting was called .
Wolosyn explained that action needed to be taken before the next regular meeting .
Discussion was turned over to Commission member Bertoluzzi who explained that Jim Copenhaver, a
member of the Exploratory Committee, brought up the issue in regards to a financial plan for a
cultural arts center in En g lewood . Council Liaison Habenicht had approached Mr. Copenhaver after
the meeting in regards to him doing a financial plan and developing a proposal. Chairperson
Wolosyn called the Special Meeting to discuss his proposal.
Chairperson Wolosyn reported that she had spoken to Director Black in regards to the proposal.
Black had said that the Cultural Arts Commission should ask City Council for access to the funds
received for the feasibility stud y , and that the request should be asked at the Year End Report.
W o los y n explained that $2 ,500.00 is available from donations received from the feasibility study , with
another $2 ,500.00 possibly being av ailable from City Council via matching funds.
Commission member Span genberg asked how much Mr . Copenhaver is asking for developing a
financial plan . Chairperson Wolosyn responded that Mr. Copenhaver would do a financial plan for
$5 ,000.00 . Discussion followed as to what the financial plan would encompass.
A motion was made by Vice Chairperson Warner and seconded by Commission member
Spangenberg that the Cultural Arts Commission request from City Council funding for
the financial portion of the business plan for the creation of a Cultural/Performing Arts
Center in Englewood, details to be worked out between Chairperson Wolosyn and
Director Black. The motion passed unanimously.
• Chairperson Wolosyn announced the presentation of the Year End Report and request for funding
would be November 1, 1999 , at a Study Session with City Council.
