CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
Minutes of December 3, 2008
CALL TO ORDER
The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to
order at 6:24pm by Chairperson Bertoluzzi at the Civic Center City Council Conference Room .

REVIEW OF AGENDA
There were no changes or additions to the agenda .
APPROVAL OF MI'.'iUTES
Bertoluzzi asked if there were any changes or corrections to the minutes of October
1, 2008 and :'-iovember 5, 2008. There were none. The minutes were approved as
presented.
IV. l.\iTRODCCTION OF GL:ESTS
There were no guests present.
V . NE\V BUSl_\iESS
Commission Member Sc hnit z er told the Commission that she had an item for New Business.
Schnitzer read an anicle from Ceramics Afonthly re gar ding fostering interest in an. Discussion
followed. Conu11ission i\-lember Stewa11 spoke in regard to a recent news story she saw on Urban
Gardening and suggeste d that the Commission recommend a community garden that incorporated
art. Di sc us s io n ensued . Black told the Commission that the Department had a community garden
next to the golf course that was successful for a couple of years. Black suggested that Recreation
Manager Hultberg and staff gather some info1mation at bring it back at the February meeting .
Commission members concurred .
Bertoluzzi discussed the recent concert in honor of Olga Wolosyn and the Top 50 Artist Reception
that was held to recognize the students whose artwork was selected as finalist for the 2009 Student
Art Calendar. Bertoluzzi suggested that when the student is being recognized, an artist from the
selection committee speak in regard to the student's a1twork and explain why the artwork had
been se lect ed. Bertoluzzi stated that he thought that it could be beneficial for the parents .
Commission members agreed with Bertoluzzi and thought it was a great idea .
VI. OLD BUSINESS
Discussion turned to an update for Art on Broadway . City Council Liaison Jill Wilson reported that
the holiday lights are up and the new bike racks and planters have also been installed ; noting that the
planters are ready for the artwork. Wilson told the Commi ss ion that everything looks fantastic and
that she is very happy to see how the downtown area has been transformed. Wilson told the
commission members that they all were a huge benefit to BID . Bertoluzzi credited the Cultural Arts
Commission in helping Englewood to grow in embracing the arts .
VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS
There was no update for Public Art or Englewood Art s .
In regard to an update on the Parks and Recreation Commission, Black informed the Commiss ion
that Community Deve lo pment Director Alan White was present to di sc uss th e transfer of
ownership of Englewood Urban Renewa l Authority parcel s to the City of Eng le wood . Bl ack
exp lained that the re are severa l parcels next to Little Dry C reek that the parks division already
maintains .
VIII. UPCOMING EVENTS
B ertolu zz i announced th e Boulder Pi ano Quartet concert on Saturday, December 6th at 2pm at
Hampd en Hall.
