CALL TO ORDER

CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
Minutes of May 2, 2007
The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to
order at 5 :50pm by Chairperson Bertoluzzi at the Civic Center City Council Conference Room.

REVIEW OF AGENDA
There were no changes or additions to the agenda .
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Bertoluzzi asked if there were any changes or corrections to the minutes of April 4,
2007. There were none. The minutes were approved as presented.

There were no guests.
V. NEW BUSINESS
There were no items for New Business .

Discussion moved to Comclission Member Bartunek and signage for Hampden Hall. Baiiunek
informed the Commission that the permanent sign for Hampden Hall will be ready in
approximately one month . Bartunek explained that she will need a couple of weeks for drawing
time and then a couple of weeks for framing .
COMMITTEE REPORTS
In regard to the Call for Entries for the Art at the Shuttle Stops, Commission Member Schnitzer
reported that the City had received a lot of entries. City Council Liaison Wolosyn noted that quite a
few entries were of high quality. Discussion followed in regard to the entries received and those
selected . Commission members were told that some shuttle stops will still not have any art due to
size restrictions, etc.
Discussion turned to the Artabout Englewood scheduled for August. Gary Hultberg, Recreation
Manager, stated that the Department's Activity Guides will come out the first of August and that it
would be a good way to advertise for the event.
Bertoluzzi informed the Commission that Englewood Arts has developed an association with
developer Glenarm Partners in regard to the building of a cultural arts center. Bertoluzzi explained
that Glenarm would be a partner with Englewood Arts. Commission members were told that
Englewood Arts is looking at the Acoma Street parking which consists of two parcels ofland
totaling approximately 85,000 square feet. Bertoluzzi went on to explain that Englewood Arts has
met with Englewood Urban Renewal Authority (EURA) to discuss the possibility of an art center
on the Acoma Street property and that EURA seemed very excited about the idea and accomplishes
all goals set for the prope1iy. Bertoluzzi reported that guidelines have been established pertaining
to use of the property and a cultural aiis center fits into twelve of the nineteen guidelines.
Bertoluzzi noted that Englewood Arts feels very positive but knows that there is a lot of work
ahead. Discussion followed regarding the property and the recent plans for mixed-use development
on the Acoma Street property that fell through.
Schnitzer asked if Englewood Arts is looking at a performing and visual arts center. Bertoluzzi
explained that Englewood Arts has always planned for a performing and educational center that
would include a concert hall that seats 600-750 people in addition to facilities for visual and
performing arts classes. Bertoluzzi noted that Englewood Arts has had discussion with Englewood
Schools in regard to a High School for the Arts and that he hopes someday to have such a facility.

Schnitzer asked Bertoluzzi what are the next steps. Bertoluzzi explained that Englewood Arts will •
need to define the steps for EURA for them to base a decision on and if EURA accepts the
proposal, Englewood Arts will ask that the property be placed on hold so that capital can be raised.
Director Black gave an update on the April Parks and Recreation Commission meeting that
included discussion on the results from the City of Englewood 2007 Citizen Survey. Wolosyn
discussed how the results of the survey are a tool for City Council and staff. Moore commented in
regard to her concerns over some of the responses and her thought that things are not visible to the
citizens. Discussion followed in regard to advertising for concerts, events, etc.
VIII. UPCOMING EVENTS
Wolosyn announced Englewood Arts last concert "Zypher Duo" on Saturday, May 26 1h at 2pm that
will include a pre-concert ensemble from the Denver Young Artists Orchestra.
IX. DIRECTOR'S CHOICE
There were no items for Director's Choice.
X. COMMISSION MEMBERS' CHOICE
Hultberg informed the Commission that for the past three years, Pirates Cove has been named the
Best Family Destination by Colorado Parent magazine. Hultberg stated that Kids ' Pages, a similar •
magazine to Colorado Parent, is now doing their own survey in which Pirates Cove was voted the
Best Family Destination, beating out Water World and Elitch Gardens. In addition, Hultberg
reported that Belleview Park was voted Best Community Park for families.

Schnitzer commented in regard to the Cultural Arts Commission's letters to RTD in support of the
art shuttle, stating that they are very nice. Wolosyn reported that City Council and staff spoke to
RTD's Board last night in which RTD presented to the City a proposal. Wolosyn noted that RTD
was very responsive and it was a positive experience .
Schnitzer stated that she has tickets available for Hawk Quest Fest on June 2"d at Hudson Gardens if
anyone is interested .
