CALL TO ORDER City of Englewood CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION Minutes of June 6, 2007 • • The regular monthl y meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commis sion was called to order at 5 :46pm by Chairperson Bertoluzz i at the Ci v ic Center City Council Conference Room . Present: Absent: Also Present: Eric Bertoluzzi , Chairperson Janet Moore , Vice Chairperson Heather Bartunek, Commission Member Kate Dulaney, Commission Member (arrived 5:59pm) Donna Schnitzer, Commission Member Olga Wolosyn , City Council Liaison Amy Laugesen, Commission Member Maggie Stewart, Commission Member Mary Lynn Baird, Englewood Schools Liaison Michael Keene , Alternate Member Gary Hultberg , Recreation Manager II. REVIEW OF AGENDA Ill. IV. There were no changes or additions to the agenda . APPROVAL OF MINUTES Bertoluzzi asked if there were any changes or corrections to the minutes of May 2, 2007. There were none. The minutes were approved as presented. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS There were no guests . V. NEW BUSINESS VI. Bertoluzzi turned discussion over to Recreation Manager Gary Hultberg and electronic packets . Hultberg informed the Commission that City Council has been discussing the option of ha ving their packets sent electronically and asked the Commission if there was any interest in having their packets sent electronically. Discussion followed . The question was asked if it was possible that some members continued to recei ve their packet through the mail while others received it electronically. Commission members were told yes, and any large items too big to scan would be distributed at the meeting. Some commission members noted that receiving the packet in the mail helps to serve as a reminder of the upcoming meeting . In addition, some commission members noted that the y prefer to have a hard copy of the agenda at the meeting . Commission members decided that at this time , they would prefer to continue to recei ve their packets through the mail. OLD BUSINESS ln regard to Hampden Hall signage , Bartunek reported that the sign is finished and is now drying . Discussion followed regarding framing . Vice Chairperson Moore asked in regard to mounting the new sign and suggested that Bartunek speak to Deputy City Manager Mike Flaherty to find out what the City will allow . Bertoluzzi asked in regard to exterior signage for Hampden Hall, MOA, the Library and Courts , noting that it was suppose to have been completed months ago. Hultberg stated that he would • follow-up . Vil. COMMITTEE REPORTS Di scussion moved to Public Art . Hultberg told the Commission that as part of the golf course redevelopment project, plans include a garden area with landscaping and artwork . Hultberg explained that Bl ack has req ue sted that funding for the artwork come out of the Conservation Trust Fund but also wa nt ed to approach the Cultural Arts Commission to see if it would consider funding fifty percent of the cost. Hultberg noted that plans are to purchase a piece in the range of $20,000 to $30,000 total. City Council Li aison Wolosyn asked how much is in the one percent art fund. Hultberg replied approxima tely $46 ,000 . Hultberg explained that he is looking at forming a committ ee with a couple members designated from the Cultural Arts Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission and staff from the golf course. Di sc u ssion followed . Bartunek commented that the Commissio n needs to see if there is anything else that it would like to purchase in the near future. Schnitzer suggested that the Commission consider putting a cap on the purchase price of the artwork . Hultberg stated that the most the Commission would be funding for the artwork would be$ l 0 ,000 to $15,000 . A motion was made by Commission Member Bartunek and seconded by Commission Member Schnitzer that the Cultural Arts Commission commit to funding fifty percent towards the purchase of artwork for the Englewood Golf Course, to come from the one percent public art fund and not to exceed $15,000. The motion passed unanimously. Hultberg told the Commission that he would schedule the first committee meeting . Wolosyn stated that she would be the Council Liaison to the committee. Wolosyn asked the Commission if there was any interest in purchasing the watermelon wedges from the art at the shuttle stops . Wolosyn noted that she did not know the price fo r artwork and if the artist wo uld lower the price for the City. Both Schnitzer and Bartunek agreed that it is wo11h getting m ore information. There were no item s for Englewood Arts . Moore gave an update on the Parks and Recreati on Commission. VlII. UPCOMING EVENTS Hultberg announced that the Sounds of Summer concert series begins June 21 51 • Bertoluzzi reported that the 2008 National Performing Arts Conference will be held in Denver. Bertoluzzi spoke in regard to a collaborative e vent that would bring conference attendees to Englewood via light rail. IX. DIRECTOR'S CHOICE There were no items for D irector's Choice. • • • • • x. COMMISSION MEMBERS' CHOICE Hultberg informed the Commission that the Englewood Art Exhibit was a success with approximately one hundred people attending the reception and two hundred visiting the exhibit. Schnitzer repo11ed that Hawkquest Fest was a success and that she really appreciated Parks and Recreation support. Schnitzer asked in regard to Funfest. Hultberg stated that it will be held on August 25 1h with a western theme . Hultberg noted that plans are that Englewood Arts will have a booth. XI.
