CALL TO ORDER City of Englewood CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION Minutes of August 1, 2007 The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to o rder at 5:54pm by Chairperson Bertoluzzi at the Ci v ic Center City Council Conference Room. Present: Absent: Also Present: Eric Bertoluzzi , Chairperson Heather Bartunek, Commission Member Michael Keene , Commission Member Donna Schnitzer, Commission Member Olga Wolosyn, City Council Liaison Jennifer Enger, Alternate Member Janet Moore, Vice Chairperson Kate Dulaney, Commission Member Maggie Stewart, Commission Member Mary Lynn Baird, Englewood Schools Liaison Jerrell Black, ex officio Gary Hultberg, Recreation Manager II. REVIEW OF AGENDA There were no changes to the agenda . • III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES • Bertoluzzi asked if there were any changes or corrections to the minutes of July 11, 2007. There were none. The minutes were approved as presented. IV. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS There were no guests . V. NEW BUSINESS There were no items for New Business . VI. OLD BUSINESS Bertoluzzi announced that the new Hampden Hall sign is up and looks good . Commission Member Bartunek commented that she would have liked to ha ve seen the sign hung higher where it would be centered between the ceiling and door frame . Commission members concurred . Recreation Manger Gary Hultberg stated that he would pursue it with building maintenance to see if it could be changed . In regard to exterior signage for CityCenter, City Council Liaison Wolosyn reported that everything is ready to go with the exception of a lift . Wolosyn explained that the lift the City had arranged to use would have ruined the landscaping so the City is pursuing a smaller lift . VII. C O MMITTEE REP ORTS Discussion was turned over to the selection of public art for the Englewood Golf Course. Wolosyn • told the Commission that she had worked with Hultberg in writing the parameters for the Call for Public Art. Discussion followed in regard to websites and publications to post the Call for Art. Bertoluzzi asked what happens if there is not a lot of response. Wolosyn stated that the committee would then go back to what it was originally looking at. In regard to Englewood Arts, Bertoluzzi stated that the Board had presented to Englewood Urban Renewal Authority a proposal for a cultural arts center on property that is owned by EURA. Bertoluzzi reported that the proposal is being evaluated by EURA and Community Development staff. Bertoluzzi explained that there has been a fa vorable response to the proposal and progress is being made . Commission members were told that Englewood Arts is hoping for a decision or recommendation to be made next Wednesday by EURA. Wolosyn added that Englewood Arts is currently planning its concert series that will start this fall. There was no update on the Parks and Recreation Commission. VIII. UP C O MING EVENTS IX. Upcoming events were discussed including Artabout Englewood on August 11 th and Funfest on August 25 th. Commission members were informed that judging for the 2008 Student Art Calendar will be taking place in October. DIRECT O R'S CHO ICE Hultberg reminded the Commission of the Board and Commission Appreciation Night on Saturday, August 25 th at Pirates Cove. Bertoluzzi stated that he will be out of town ; noting that possibly Vice Chairperson Moore could speak on behalf of the Commission if she was planning on attending . X. C O MMISSIO N MEMB ER S' C HO ICE Bartunek discussed the distribution of Artabout Englewood flyers and posters. Alternate Member Enger invited commission members to Duncan Park on Tuesday, August 7th for National Night Out and the celebration of the City purchasing Duncan Park from Englewood Schools . XI.
