CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
Minutes of December 4, 2002
CALL TO ORDER
The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to order
at 5:46pm by Chairperson Bertoluzzi at the City Council Conference Room at the Civic Center
building.

REVIEW OF AGENDA
There were no changes to the agenda .
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairperson Bertoluzzi asked if there were any changes or corrections to the minutes of
November 6, 2002. Bertoluzzi noted that under New Business, the fifth sentence should
read " ...•.. John Henry, a well known artist, has offered to sell a piece of his art ... to the
Museum of Outdoor Arts". There were no other changes or corrections to the minutes.
The minutes were approved as amended.
IV. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS
There were no guests.
V. NEW BUSINESS
Discussion followed regarding last month's presentation by Cynthia Madden-Leitner of the Museum
of Outdoor Arts concerning a piece of art for the round-a-bout. Director Black discussed the
procedure in presenting the information to the Public Art Committee. City Council Liaison Wolosyn
stated that the next meeting for the Public Art Committee would be Tuesday, December 10th . Wolosyn
suggested a Special Meeting for the Cultural Arts Commission on December 11th to discuss the Public
Art Committee's recommendation.
• VI. OLD BUSINESS
Recreation Manager Hultberg spoke in regard to the art that was placed on the RTD cross-over bridge
at Union and Santa Fe. Hultberg distributed an invitation to the unveiling of the artwork. Hultberg
also explained that the purpose of the art was to cover bolts that extended out from the concrete wall
but that there are some bolts that are still exposed. The Commission was asked if they would be
willing to write a letter stating that they were pleased with the project. Commission members agreed •
to send a letter.
VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS
Commission members discussed the General Iron Works Photo Reception that was held prior to this
evening's meeting. Vice Chairperson Tomasso announced that a joint presentation with the
photographer's and Englewood Historical Society would be held on February 20, 2003, in the City
Center Community Room.
There was no further information on the Public Art Committee.
City Council Liaison Wolosyn announced that ECACA would be holding a retreat tomorrow from 4-
9pm.
Director Black gave an update on the Parks and Recreation Commission. Black stated that
groundbreaking has taken place for both the Englewood Recreation Center and Malley Senior
Recreation Center bond projects; with an expected start date for the aquatics facility sometime in the
summer of 2003 .
VIII. DIRECTOR'S AND COMMISSION MEMBERS' CHOICE

Director Black informed the Commission that the January Cultural Arts Commission meeting falls on
January 1, 2003 . Black suggested canceling the meeting due to the holiday and lack of agenda items.
Commission members concurred. Black noted that a meeting would be called if any items came up for
discussion.
Black turned discussion over to Prometheus, the statue owned by the Englewood Public Library that
the Cultural Arts Commission was charged with finding a permanent location. Black told the
Commission that Hank Long, Director of Library Services, had contacted him in regard to a possible
location inside the entrance to the Library. Black explained that the Commission would still need to
follow the process of taking the proposal to the Public Art Committee in addition to getting MOA's
approval. Black noted that some funding would be necessary for a pedestal. Recreation Manager
Hultberg discussed prior history with Prometheus being placed near the Libarry at City Center and
MOA's disapproval due to their Sculpture Garden. Black stated that he would have a discussion with
Hank Long.
Hultberg discussed the upcoming Holiday Craft Fair at the Englewood Recreation Center on
December 7 and 8, 2002.
Chairperson Bertoluzzi discussed next year 's calendar and the Cultural Arts Commission doing
something special for the children and their families.
Bertoluzzi spoke in regard to the Strings Attached article and photograph in the November 29th
Englewood Herald.
ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 6:25pm . •
