CALL TO ORDER City of Englewood CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION Minutes of June 5, 2002 / The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to order at 5:45pm by Vice Chairperson Tomasso at the City Council Conference Room at the Civic Center building. Present: Absent: Also Present: Ray Tomasso, Vice Chairperson Kate Dulaney, Commission Member Olga Wolosyn, City Council Liaison Joel Burrage, Youth Commission Member Eric Bertoluzzi, Chairperson Janet Moore, Commission Member Mary Lynn Baird, Englewood School District Liaison Jerrell Black, ex officio Gary Hultberg, Recreation Manager Julie Grazulis, City Council Member (arrived at 6:00pm) John Voboril, Planner I, Community Development Dawn Parks, Scientific & Cultural Facilities District (left at 6:08pm) David Parker, Intern for the Department of Parks and Recreation Cynthia Madden-Leitner, President and Executive Director for the Museum of Outdoor Arts (arrived at 5:51pm) II. REVIEW OF AGENDA There were no changes to the agenda. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Due to the lack of a quorum, the minutes were not approved. IV. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS v. David Parks, intern for the Department of Parks and Recreation and Dawn Parker, Program Administrator for the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District were introduced. NEW BUSINESS Recreation Manager Hultberg turned discussion over to Ms. Parker with the Scientific & Cultural Facilities District. Ms. Parker informed the Commission that reauthorization for SCFD will be going to the voters in 2004 where it will be decided iflegislation for SCFD will be extended or reauthorized. Ms. Parker gave a brief history of SCFD, explaining that it was established in 1988 and distributes funds generated by sales tax equaling one cent for every $10.00. Commission members were told that over 300 organizations receive funding through SCFD. Ms. Parker reported that $38,000,000 was given out in 2001 and an expected $36 ,000,000 for 2002 . Discussion followed regarding the tier structure for SCFD, noting that the City of Englewood, Cultural Arts Division falls into the tier 3 category. Ms. Parker discussed the benefits of SCFD and asked that at its programs, the City of Englewood help advertise the benefits of SCFD. Hultberg briefed Ms. Parker on the benefits to the Department from SCFD's grant contributions. Ms. Parker thanked the Commission for their time. Cynthia Madden-Leitner with the Museum of Outdoor Arts was introduced . Ms . Madden-Leitner • apprised the Commission of an upcoming General Iron Works Show that will open June 15-August 30th that will utilize pieces from the General Iron Works site. Discussion followed regarding the inclusion of the photos from the General Iron Works Photo Project. Ms . Madden-Leitner asked that the photos be hung as part of the show. Discussion followed regarding other aspects to the show. VI. OLD BUSINESS John Voboril with Community Development reviewed goals developed for the Comprehensive Plan from month 's meeting. Discussion followed regarding objectives to coincide with the goals. Mr. Voboril asked commission members to continue working on objectives and to forward to him any information within the next three weeks. Commission members were told that a complete set of goals and objectives for the Comprehensive Plan would be available for the July meeting. VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS Discussion began on Committee Reports and the General Iron Works Photo Project. The ten selected photos were on display for the Commission's review . Vice Chairperson Tomasso gave a brief update including the need for an opening exhibit for the two photographers . It was suggested to wait until the fall. Recreation Manager Hultberg distributed flyers for a joint art show by Jeff Powers and Jane Godany, the two photographers for the Photo Project. Tomasso thanked Hultberg for his help with the Project. In regards to Ms. Madden-Leitner's suggestion to hang the photos as part of the Museum of Outdoor Arts General Iron Works Show, it was consensus of the Commission to allow their inclusion . There was no new business in regards to the Public Art Committee or Exploratory Committee. VIII. DIRECTOR'S AND COMMISSION MEMBERS' CHOICE A plaque and cake were presented to Youth Commission Member Burrage for his years of service to the Cultural Arts Commission . The question was asked ifthere would be a July Commission meeting due to being the day before the 4th of July. Recreation Manager Hultberg suggested that Chairperson Bertoluzzi make the determination. Hultberg distributed the 2002 Sounds of Summer Concert Series flyer . IX.
