CALL TO ORDER City of Englewood CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION Minutes of December 6, 2006 The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to order at 5:45pm by Chairperson Bertoluzzi at the City Council Conference Room at the Civic Center. Present: Absent: Also Present: Eric Bertoluzzi, Chairperson Janet Moore, Vice Chairperson Heather Bartunek, Commission Member Donna Schnitzer, Commission Member Olga Wolosyn, City Council Liaison (arrived at 5:54pm) Jerrell Black, ex officio Kate Dulaney, Commission Member Amy Laugesen, Commission Member Maggie Stewart, Commission Member Mary Lynn Baird , Englewood School District Liaison Michael Keene, Alternate Member Rachel Miller, Museum of Outdoor Arts Liaison Tim Vacca, Museum of Outdoor Arts Jerry She11, Director of Scrooge (arrived at 6: 14pm, left at 6:24pm) • II. REVIEW OF AGENDA • There were no changes to the agenda. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Bertoluzzi asked if there were any changes and/or corrections to the minutes of November 1, 2006. There were none. The minutes were approved as presented. IV. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS Rachel Miller with the Museum of Outdoor Arts introduced Tim Vacca, also with the Museum of Outdoor Arts . Miller informed the Commission that she will be leaving MOA the first of the year and Tim will be replacing her as the Museum of Outdoor Arts Liaison to the Cultural Arts Commission. V. NEW BUSINESS VI. There were no items for New Business . OLD BUSINESS Bertoluzzi told the Commission that exterior signage for Hampden Hall has been ordered. Bertoluzzi asked Black as to when the sign should be delivered . Black replied that he was not aware of the schedule for the sign . Bertoluzzi noted that lettering will be on both sides of the sign . Commission Member Schnitzer discussed the need for signage on the first level of City Center, informing the public that Hampden Hall is upstairs on the second level. VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS Commission Members Bartunek and Schnitzer spoke in regard to Art in Public Places and the need for more art at the shuttle stops. Schnitzer reported that in mid-January, she would be contacting • Alexan City Center to let them know that the Commission is interested in helping with the selection for the mural. City Council Liaison Wolosyn discussed the success of the Englewood Arts concerts and performances. Bertoluzzi told the Commission that he has received comments from performers in regard to how much they love the Hampden Hall facility and acoustics . Discussion followed regarding the Strings Attached program . Bertoluzzi noted that the program is entering into its fourth year. Commission members were given an update on the Parks and Recreation Commission. VIII. UPCOMING EVENTS Vice Chairperson Moore announced that the Juried Art Show slide show preview would be on Sunday. Bertoluzzi discussed the upcoming performances of Scrooge. Bertoluzzi explained that he had invited Jerry Shell , Director of Scrooge, to stop by to meet the Commission iftime allowed . Bertoluzzi went on to explain that Shell has had to bring in additional lighting for the Scrooge performances which he has graciously agreed to leave up at Hampden Hall after the show has finished. Miller and Vacca encouraged commission members to see the Museum of Outdoor Arts' exhibit of Ice + Snow at the Coors Amphitheater. IX. DIRECTOR'S CHOICE Black reported that the City of Englewood has closed with Miller Weingarten on the Sheridan Redevelopment project and construction is expected to begin immediately. Discussion followed . Black informed the Commission that City Council has given its approval on the Parks Master Plan which will become an amendment to the City of Englewood's Comprehensive Plan. Wolosyn discussed her initial disappointment in the plan due to it not addressing the citizen's desire for additional outdoor performance venues . Wolosyn went on to explain that she gave her approval once she realized that it was addressed under future recreational facility needs . X. COMMISSION MEMBERS' CHOICE Upon the arrival of Jerry Shell, Bertoluzzi introduced Mr. Shell and turned discussion over to him . Shell discussed with the Commission the lending of the lights for Hampden Hall and his hope of being able to use the Hampden Hall facility for future performances. Bartunek reported that they are in the planning period for PEAK 's second quarter. Wolosyn discussed the PEAK projects.
