HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-02-01 CAC MINUTESCity of Englewood CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION Minutes of February 1, 2006 A tour of the cultural space was held at 5:20pm with the Cultural Arts Commission and the Denver Commission of Cultural Affairs . A reception followed the tour. I. CALL TO ORDER The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to order at 6: 15pm by Chairperson Bertoluzzi at the City Council Conference Room at the Civic Center. Present: Absent: Also Present: Eric Bertoluzzi, Chairperson Heather Bartunek, Commission Member Kate Dulaney, Commission Member Amy Laugesen, Commission Member (left at 6: 15pm) Donna Schnitzer, Commission Member Olga Wolosyn, City Council Liaison Jerrell Black, ex officio (left at 6 : l 5pm) Janet Moore, Vice Chairperson Maggie Stewart, Commission Member Mary Lynn Baird, Englewood Schools District Liaison Michael Keene, Alternate Member Meredith Wortzel, Museum of Outdoor Arts Jenna Sutheimer, Department of Parks and Recreation Intern REVIEW OF AGENDA There were no changes to the agenda. III. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairperson Bertoluzzi asked if there were any changes to the minutes of January 4, 2006. There were none. The minutes were approved as presented. IV. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS Jenna Sutheimer, Intern for the Department of Parks and Recreation, introduced herself and told the Commission that she comes from the University of Georgia where she is majoring in Recreation Administration . V. NEW BUSINESS There were no items for new business . VI. OLD BUSINESS Bertoluzzi turned discussion to the Juried Art Show and Vice Chairperson Moore's concerns from last month's meeting regarding open times for the gallery. Bertoluzzi stated that they were able to come up with a tentative schedule . Discussion followed regarding the schedule and volunteers to gallery sit. Discussion began on the cultural space and the selection of a name. Bertoluzzi told the Commission that they were encouraged and invited to suggest names they may have in regard to a name for the cultural space. Bertoluzzi noted that he had not received any suggestions from the Commission. Commission members were told that two names-" The Spotlight" and "Tulleries" have been suggested in addition to "Hampden Hall at Englewood Civic Center" that had been chosen by the Englewood Cultural Arts Center Association . Wolosyn told the Commission that City Council will be discussing and approving a name for the cultural space at Monday night's Council meeting, therefore, needing a recommendation from the Commission on a e name for the cultural space . Following discussion, A motion was made by Commission Member Schnitzer and seconded by Commission Member Dulaney recommending Hampden Hall at Englewood Civic Center as the name for the cultural space. Ayes: Nays: Bertoluzzi, Dulaney, Schnitzer, Bartunek None The motion passed unanimously. Discussion followed in regard to activities scheduled for the grand opening of the cultural space on March 18 and 19, 2006. VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS Commission Member Schnitzer gave an update on the Art at the Shuttle Stops, reporting that four sculptures are in the process of being installed. Schnitzer spoke in regard to having the opportunity to meet the Denver Commission of Cultural Affairs and getting ideas in regard to the public art walk. There was no update for the Exploratory Committee. Recreation Manager Hultberg discussed the Parks Master Plan, informing the Commission that things are moving forward. Hultberg told the Commission that a presentation was made to City Council and that a second public meeting has been scheduled. Per request of the Cultural Arts Commission, Hultberg r eported that a second meeting has been scheduled with the board. VIII. UPCOMING EVENTS Bertoluzzi announced the upcoming Englewood Arts concert featuring the Boulder Piano Quartet on February 18 1h at 3 :30pm in the City Center Atrium. IX. DIRECTOR'S CHOICE There were no items for Director 's Choice. X. COMMISSION MEMBERS' CHOICE MOA Representative Wortzel spoke in regard to the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards, noting that it will end on Tuesday of next week. XI.
