CALL TO ORDER City of Englewood CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION Minutes of June 4, 2003 The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to order at 5:47pm by Vice Chairperson Tomasso at the City Council Conference Room at the Civic Center building. Present: Absent: Ray Tomasso , Vice Chairperson Kate Dulaney, Commission Member (arrived at 6:00pm) Darrell Freeland , Commission Member Janet Moore, Commission Member Maggie Stewart, Commission Member (arrived at 5 :55pm) Olga Wolosyn , City Council Liaison Jerrell Black , ex officio Eric Bertoluzzi , Chairperson Donna Schnitzer, Commission Member Mary Lynn Baird, Englewood School District Liaison II. REVIEW OF AGENDA III. There were no changes to the agenda . APPROVAL OF MINUTES Vice Chairperson Tomasso asked if there were any changes or additions to the minutes of May 7, 2003. There were none. The minutes were approved as presented. IV. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS There were no guests present. V. NEW BUSINESS There was no new business . VI. OLD BUSINESS VII. Discussion followed in regard to a recognition gift . Director Black turned discussion over to naming of the aquatic facility . Black explained that the name of the Family Aquatic Center was announced at the Centennial Celebration , "Pirates Cove". Black went on to explain that Drake Halverson, a kindergartner at Maddox Elementary, was present when his entry was announced. Discussion followed regarding opportunities to theme. COMMITTEE REPORTS City Council Liaison Wolosyn announced that the contract for the John Henry artwork for the round a bout would be presented to City Council on Monday, June 16th. Wolosyn stated that there was no new business to report on for the Exploratory Committee. Director Black updated the Commission on the Parks and Recreation Commission. Black told commission members that June is Open Forum for the Commission and that the meeting would be held at Bates/Logan Park. Discussion followed regarding budget. Black stated that sales tax revenue remains below normal and that the City is looking at an additional ten percent reduction for all departments. Commission members were told that City Council is considering the occupation privilege tax and if passed, adjustments to department budgets would be made. VIII. DIRECTOR'S AND COMMISSION MEMBERS' CHOICE Director Black told the Commission that Frank Gryglewicz, Director of Finance , is preparing to present to City Council for approval the one percent for Public Art Fund. Black explained that there is approximately $9,000 . Black told the Commission of a recent encounter he had with Arts Alive from the Conifer area. Black discussed common ground between the two organizations and suggested that the Commission make contact with them . Vice Chairperson Tomasso discussed recognition for the "citizen of the century". Tomasso explained that in the discussion, it was determined that there is a need for an artist registry for the Englewood area. Discussion followed regarding the process of creating such a registry. City Council Liaison Wolosyn spoke in regard to the decline in the budget and her pursuit to not lose long-term plans. VIII. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 6: 17pm . Deborah A .
