SCULPTURE FOR NEW AQUATIC PARK
Commission Member Schnitzer updated the Commission on the discussion that took place with the
sub-committee in regard to the request for $25,000 from the Public Art Fund for a sculpture to be
placed at entrance to the Pirates Cove Aquatic Facility.
Recreation Manager Hultberg indicated that he had spoken with the gallery and told them that he
would be back in touch tomorrow to verify whether the City is interested in purchasing the sculpture
but that the gallery said that they could still have the sculpture by opening day of 2004.
City Council Liaison Wolosyn stated that the project has been consistent with the Art in Public Places
guidelines and that Recreation Manager Hultberg has done a lot of research prior to bringing the
proposal to the Art Committee.
Commission Member Moore commented that she liked the art piece but suggested leaving the gun off.
Hultberg responded that it might be possible to use a sword in place of the gun. Hultberg stated that he
would have a discussion with the artist.
Moore suggested that Commission Member Stewart work with Hultberg and the artist on the piece.
Commission members agreed with the suggestion.
A motion was made by Commission Member Moore and seconded by Commission
Member Stewart to accept the Public Art Committee's recommendation of funding the
sculpture for the Pirates Cove Aquatic Facility in the amount of $25,000 from the Art in
Public Places fund. The motion passed unanimously .
