The special meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to order at 5:50pm by Vice Chairperson Tomasso at the City Council Conference Room at the Civic Center building. Present: Ray Tomasso, Vice Chairperson Absent: Kate Dulaney, Commission Member Janet Moore, Commission Member Donna Schnitzer, Commission Member Maggie Stewart, Commission Member Olga Wolosyn, City Council Liaison Jerrell Black, ex officio Eric Bertoluzzi, Chairperson Darrell Freeland, Commission Member Also Present: Mary Lynn Baird, Englewood School District Liaison Gary Hultberg, Recreation Manager SCULPTURE FOR NEW AQUATIC PARK Commission Member Schnitzer updated the Commission on the discussion that took place with the sub-committee in regard to the request for $25,000 from the Public Art Fund for a sculpture to be placed at entrance to the Pirates Cove Aquatic Facility. Recreation Manager Hultberg indicated that he had spoken with the gallery and told them that he would be back in touch tomorrow to verify whether the City is interested in purchasing the sculpture but that the gallery said that they could still have the sculpture by opening day of 2004. City Council Liaison Wolosyn stated that the project has been consistent with the Art in Public Places guidelines and that Recreation Manager Hultberg has done a lot of research prior to bringing the proposal to the Art Committee. Commission Member Moore commented that she liked the art piece but suggested leaving the gun off. Hultberg responded that it might be possible to use a sword in place of the gun. Hultberg stated that he would have a discussion with the artist. Moore suggested that Commission Member Stewart work with Hultberg and the artist on the piece. Commission members agreed with the suggestion. A motion was made by Commission Member Moore and seconded by Commission Member Stewart to accept the Public Art Committee's recommendation of funding the sculpture for the Pirates Cove Aquatic Facility in the amount of $25,000 from the Art in Public Places fund.
