CALL TO ORDER
City of Englewood
CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
Minutes of November 2, 2005
The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to order
at 5:45pm by Vice Chairperson Moore at the City Council Conference Room at the Civic Center.

REVIEW OF AGENDA
There were no changes to the agenda.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Vice Chairperson Moore asked if there were any changes to the minutes of October 5, 2005.
There were none. The minutes were approved as presented.
IV. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS
Nancy Fenton, Program Coordinator for the Art at the Shuttle Stops, was introduced.
V. NEW BUSINESS
Discussion was turned over to Ms. Fenton who gave an update on the second call for entries for the
Art at the Shuttle Stops. Ms . Fenton informed the Commission that over one hundred Calls for Entries
were sent out but only five submittals were received of which four were selected. Ms. Fenton
distributed photos of the four pieces of art that were selected. Discussion followed.
Moore asked how many of the shuttle stops do not have art. Ms. Fenton explained that there are three
not including the stop by the Masonic Lodge which is going to be redeveloped. Moore asked in regard
to the future of the art shuttle. Ms . Fenton stated that the shuttle is in its ' second year of a three-year
grant. Ms. Fenton explained that Community Development is continuing to search for grants that
would allow the City to continue to operate the shuttle after this current grant runs out. Ms. Fenton
also noted that Community Development is hopeful that RTD will consider taking over the shuttle.
Moore asked ifthere is any chance that the route will be expanded. Ms. Fenton stated not right now
due to funding.
Before leaving the meeting, Fenton reported that a bus bench (from the Olde Tyme Fair) has been put
up at Lincoln and Girard and that the second bus bench is being painted by Maddox Elementary under A
the guidance of Maddox's art teacher and Commission Member Dulaney. W
VI. OLD BUSINESS
Discussion moved on to an update of the cultural space. City Council Liaison Wolosyn reported that
construction began on Wednesday. Discussion followed.
VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS
There was no update for Public Art. Commission Member Bartunek noted that Cow Parade will be at
the Cherry Creek Arts Festival in July and more information is available at www.cherryarts.org.
Discussion followed in regard to scheduling a time to review slides for the Juried Art Show. It was
decided to meet on Thursday, December 8th from 4-9pm in the Community Development Conference
Room.
In regard to the Parks and Recreation Commission, Moore noted that due to City Council Member
Bradshaw's term ending, the Parks and Recreation Commission presented her a pottery dish in
recognition of her years of service . Moore noted that the dish was made by Jim Doty, Wolosyn's
husband.
VIII. UPCOMING EVENTS
Moore announced that upcoming concerts sponsored by Englewood Arts including a Young Sinfonia
concert on November 5th and the Just Baroque concert on November 26th.
Discussion followed regarding the Englewood Arts table at the upcoming Holiday Bazaar at Malley.
Recreation Manager Hultberg distributed a flier on the event.
IX. DIRECTOR'S CHOICE
Hultberg informed the Commission that the department recently purchased a new 26-passenger bus
and an ADA accessible van. Hultberg explained that the new vehicles will have a wrap, similar to the
Art Shuttles, which are actual pictures of the department's facilities and program participants.
Hultberg reported that George Stanescu has contacted the City in regard to a piece of art he has that he
says would be for a park. Hultberg explained that the Parks and Recreation Department is currently in
the process of having a parks master plan done. Hultberg went on to explain that plans are that the
Master Plan will include recommendations for public art which would be brought back to the
Commission to see if there is any interest. Hultberg noted that Mr. Stanescu would be contacted to let
him know that his piece of art would be included in that process but that it would not be at this
immediate time.
Hultberg notified that Commission that holiday hors' d'oeuvres would be served at the December
meeting starting at 5:30pm.
X. COMMISSION MEMBERS' CHOICE
MOA representative Wortzel spoke in regard to the 2006 Student Art Calendar Artists' Reception held
on October 27th. ··
Commission members discussed upcoming shows that they are participating in.
XI. ADJOURNMENT
The meeting was adjourned at 6:34pm.
