CALL TO ORDER City of Englewood CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION Minutes of December 7, 2005 The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to order at 5:45pm by Chairperson Bertoluzzi at the City Council Conference Room at the Civic Center. Present: Absent: Also Present: Eric Bertoluzzi, Chairperson Janet Moore, Vice Chairperson Heather Bartunek, Commission Member Kate Dulaney, Commission Member (arrived at 5:53pm) Amy Laugesen, Commission Member Donna Schnitzer, Commission Member Olga Wolosyn , City Council Liaison Mary Lynn Baird, Englewood School District Liaison Jerrell Black, ex officio Maggie Stewart, Commission Member Michael Keene, Alternate Member Meredith Wortzel, Museum of Outdoor Arts Dave Lee , Manager of Open Space (left at 6 :32pm) Jana McKenzie, EDAW (left at 6 :32pm) Chad Schneckenburger, EDA W (left at 6:32pm) REVIEW OF AGENDA There were no changes to the agenda. APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairperson Bertoluzzi asked if there were any changes to the minutes of November 2, 2005. There were none. The minutes were approved as presented. IV. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS Director Black introduced Dave Lee, Manager of Open Space, who was present to give an update in regard to the Parks Master Plan. V. NEW BUSINESS Discussion was turned over Dave Lee who introduced Ms . McKenzie and Mr. Schneckenburger with EDA W. Lee explained that the Parks Master Plan process began in August of 2005 and with the assistance of Community Development, the last four months has been for gathering information that also included a citizen survey that was sent to 2200 Englewood residences . Lee turned discussion over to Ms. McKenzie and Mr. Scneckenburger. Ms. McKenzie gave an overview of the of the parks master plan process, telling the Commission that often arts in public places is integrated in the plans. Ms. McKenzie reviewed the schedule that will include a number of community meetings, the first being on January 11 , 2006 . Discussion and presentation followed . Following the presentation, Black told the Commission that a steering committee has been formed who would like the Cultural Arts Commission to provide input as to what needs they feel should be considered. Ms. McKenzie noted that the parks master plan will help to integrate park improvements and additions with other programs going on in the C ity of Englewood. Discussion followed in regard to the integration of the public art plan and the Platte River Improvement Plan . Bertoluzzi suggested that at the January meeting, the Cultural Arts Commission discuss what perspective they can give to the parks master plan process. Commission members agreed. Bertoluzzi thanked Mr. Lee, Ms . Kenzie and Mr. Schneckenburger. VI. OLD BUSINESS Discussion turned to the cultural space. Black reported that construction is moving along and walls are going up. Discussion followed regarding naming of the facility and a contribution plaque. In regard to the contribution plaque, Hultberg stated that the department recently researched contribution plaques for the Malley Senior Center which he would forward on to them. VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS In regard to Public Art, a picture of the bus bench that was painted at the Olde Tyme Fair was distributed . The bench is located at Lincoln and Girard. Vice Chairperson Moore reminded commission members that judging for the National Juried Art Show would be tomorrow evening. Moore gave an update on the Parks and Recreation Commission, noting that they were also gi ven a presentation by EDAW on the parks master plan. VIII. UPCOMING EVENTS Bertoluzzi commented in regard to the Strings Attached concert, saying it was inspirational. Commission members were told of the upcoming Just Baroque and A Big Ba nd Christmas concerts. IX. DIRECTOR'S CHOICE Black wished everyone happy holidays . X. COMMISSION MEMBERS' CHOICE MOA Representative Wortzel discussed the upcoming Scholastic Art and Writing Awards. Commission Member Laugesen gave an update on the Den ver Art Council. Laugesen reported that the Council has committed itself in taking an active role in art education. Discussion followed . Laugesen also reported that MOA will no longer be carrying the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards after this year and a new venue is being sought. XI. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 7 :03pm.
