CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
Minutes of January 5, 2005

The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to
order at 5:46pm by Chairperson Bertoluzzi at the City Council Conference Room at the Civic Center
building.

There were no changes to the agenda .
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Chairperson Bertoluzzi asked ifthere were any changes to the minutes of December 1, 2004. There
were none . The minutes were approved as presented.
INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS
There were no guests present.
V. NEW BUSINESS
There were no items for New Business .
VI. OLD BUSINESS
In regard to the completion of the cultural space, Director Black reported that over the holidays, Rick
Kahm, Public Works Director and Suzette Emerson from SEE Architecture had brought in Howard
McGregor, a world-renowned sound expert, to do an analysis on the space. Commission members
were told that the report should be completed in the next couple of weeks. Black noted that after
staff has had the time to review the report , a meeting will be held to discuss Mr. McGregor's
recommendations and to visit the space. Chairperson Bertoluzzi asked if Ms. Emerson is waiting on
the report before starting the preliminary design. Black replied yes, that the drawings would be the
next step .
• VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS
With the arrival of a guest, Bertoluzzi asked her to introduce herself. Ms. Bartunek introduced
herself and told the Commission that she is an Engiewood resident and an artist, specializing in
computer imaging. Ms. Bartunek informed the Commission that she has submitted an application for
the Cultural Arts Commission.
There were no updates for Committee Reports.
Commission Member Laugesen asked in regard to Art at the Shuttle Stops and when the next call for
entries would be; commenting that some of the stops look awfully bare. Bertoluzzi asked if some of
the art had been purchased. Vice Chairperson Moore explained that seven or eight of the stops were
left empty. Black stated that he would follow-up with Ms. Dannemiller, suggesting that she attend
the February meeting to give an update. Discussion followed in regard to the Commission having a
shuttle stop to place a piece of art at.
VIII. EVENTS
Bertoluzzi reported that the December 22"ct concert, "A Baroque Christmas" was very successful with
approximately 130 people in attendance.
Bertoluzzi announced the Fourth Annual Back to Bach concert on February 19th at 7 :30pm.
Bertoluzzi commended Denise White, Marketing and Public Information Administrator for the
Department of Parks and Recreation, on her help with the posters .
In regard to the Juried Art Show, Moore reported that the show has been juried and that letters have
been sent out. Moore explained that there are 56 paintings and 32 3-dimensional pieces, with a total
of 55 artists representing 21 states. Commission members were told that a total of 160 artists entered
the show compared to 140 last year. Moore stated that the show would be available for viewing
during the Back to Bach concert and that the artist reception would be the following week. Moore
asked for volunteers the week of February 14th to assist with painting, hanging and setting-up.
IX. DIRECTOR'S CHOICE
There were no items for Director's Choice.
X. COMMISSION MEMBERS' CHOICE
Meredith Wortzel distributed invitations to the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards Ceremony and
Reception on January 29th. Wortzel announced that the Teacher's Reception on would be January 7th
at 5pm and invited those who are interested.
Moore reported that the Englewood Arts booth at the Holiday Craft Fair was very successful.
