CALL TO ORDER
City of Englewood
CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
Minutes of February 2, 2005
The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to
order at 5:46pm by Commission Member Dulaney at the City Council Conference Room at the Civic
Center building.

REVIEW OF AGENDA
There were no changes to the agenda.
APPROVAL OF MINUTES
Commission Member Dulaney asked ifthere were any changes to the minutes of January 5, 2005.
There were none. The minutes were approved as presented.
IV. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS
Jim Woodward, City Council Member, was introduced. Commission members introduced
themselves to Mr. Woodward.

There were no items for New Business.
OLD BUSINESS
Discussion moved on to the cultural space. Black reported that the sound analysis report has been
received and is currently being reviewed by Public Works. Black told the Commission that staff will
be meeting with Chairperson Bertoluzzi and City Council Member Wolosyn next week to go over the
report with them. Black discussed the importance in doing the study so that the space is completed
right from the beginning. Commission members were informed that the sound engineer would be
working with the architect and will be involved in the process from the beginning. Black told the
Commission that things are moving forward and that he would be bringing information back to the
Board for their review.
VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS
In regard to an update on the art at the shuttle stops, Black informed the Commission that due to a
prior commitment, Ms. Dannemiller was unable to attend tonight's meeting but that he had received
information from her for an update. The new art brochures were distributed. Black reported that
eight of the ten pieces of art have been installed and that an event is being scheduled for the spring to
showcase the art. Commission members were told that although there have been a number of
inquiries in regard to the art, no art has been sold. Black told the Commission that Ms. Dannemiller
was very excited to hear that the Commission may be interested in placing a piece of art at a shuttle
stop and said that they could submit a design to the selection committee. Commission Member
Laugesen asked ifthere would not be another call for entries. Black replied that Ms. Dannemiller did
not say. Black stated that he would follow-up. It was decided that Ms . Laugesen would be the point
of contact.
There were no updates for the Exploratory Committee or Parks and Recreation Commission.

Wolosyn announced the Young Sinfonia concert on Friday, March 4th and the Back to Bach and
National Juried Art Show on Saturday, February 19th. Wolosyn reported that Parks and Recreation
has providing some funding to assist in the purchase of panels, lights and pedestals for the art show .
Wolosyn noted that Englewood Arts is also providing some funding and that there will be a
fundraiser to off-set some of the costs. In regard to the Department providing funding for items,
Black explained that the items purchased could be used in the new cultural space.
DIRECTOR'S CHOICE
Black announced that at February 7th City Council meeting, City Council would be finalizing their
appointments to Boards and Commissions . In regard to the Cultural Arts Commission, Black told the
Commission that City Council has appointed a new commission member in addition to an alternate
member.
Commission members were informed that Carol McGuigan has accepted the Special Events Program
Administrator position that was held by Amy Doe. Black explained that Carol has overseen the
cultural arts programs for the Department of Parks and Recreation for more than twenty years. Black
went on to explain that Carol would continue to work part-time for the Department of Parks and
Recreation overseeing the summer drama program, Sounds of Summer Concert Series, Malley
dinners and craft fair/holiday bazaar and part-time for the City Manger's Office overseeing projects
that Amy did, eventually scheduling the cultural space when it is completed. Black stated that he
would have Ms. McGuigan attend a meeting so that the Board can meet her.
X. COMMISSION MEMBERS' CHOICE
MOA Representative Wortzel spoke in regard to the Scholastic Art and Writing Awards Show .
Black reported that the City of Englewood and the Museum of Outdoor Arts recently took part in the
South Metro Chamber of Commerce tour where Rodney Lontine gave a tour and presentation on
MOA and the City did a presentation of Pirates Cove . Black commented that it was a great

opportunity to market the sites, adding that a recent Denver Post article on the tour mentioned both •
MOA and Pirates Cove.
Commission Member Schnitzer distributed cultural arts calendars.
Recreation Manger Hultberg informed commission members that the Spring Activity Guides are in
the mail. Hultberg pointed out the Englewood Arts information that was published in the guide.
• Ms. Bartunek discussed her frustration in trying to locate information on the City website. Black
explained that the City is in the process of updating its website that will include more links and
information and eventually the capability to register for recreation programs online. Bartunek asked
ifthere was a calendar for the Cultural Arts Commission that would show when volunteers were
needed for events, shows, etc. Wolosyn commented that there is not one but that she thought it is a
good idea. Bartunek responded that she would create a calendar.

Wolosyn thanked Hultberg for providing space in the Activity Guides for the Englewood Arts
information. Wolosyn discussed a recent article in The Denver Business Journal on Englewood.
Dulaney announced the upcoming Englewood Schools Student Art Show in March.
