City of Englewood CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION Minutes of July 7, 2004 CALL TO ORDER The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to order at 5:50pm by Chairperson Bertoluzzi at the City Council Conference Room at the Civic Center. Present: Eric Bertoluzzi, Chairperson Absent: Janet Moore, Vice Chairperson Maggie Stewart, Commission Member Olga Wolosyn, City Council Liaison Jerrell Black, ex officio Donna Schnitzer, Commission Member Kate Dulaney, Commission Member Mary Lynn Baird, Commission Member Also Present: Sarah Rodriguez, Parks and Recreation Intern REVIEW OF AGENDA There were no changes or additions to the agenda . APPROVAL OF MINUTES Chairperson Bertoluzzi asked if there were any corrections or changes to the minutes of June 2, 2004. Bertoluzzi asked that the Attendance Report be changed due to his absence being recorded as unexcused, which should have been excused. Ex officio Jerrell Black said that the report would be corrected. IV. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS Jerrell Black introduced Sarah Rodriguez, an intern from Aurora University in Chicago, who is working with the Parks and Recreation Department helping with various programs for the summer. Black said that Ms. Rodriguez was doing an outstanding job. V. NEW BUSINESS Chairperson Bertoluzzi announced that Commission Member Kate Delaney had been reappointed to the Commission. Bertoluzzi added that Deborah Howard had submitted her resignation, and that her position would be filled by Amy Laugesen. City Council Liaison Olga Wolosyn added that it had been decided to leave the other opening unfilled until January . • VI. OLD BUSINESS Olga Wolosyn explained the Dala Horse project and passed around photos of the horse she and Commission Member Kate Dulaney had painted. Discussion then turned to the Art at Shuttle Stops project. Wolosyn said that one artist had been chosen out of 12 . Wolosyn added that Community Development had a wonderful marketing kit for the project. Wolosyn reminded the Commission of the "Peak in the Park" event scheduled for August 21 at the Piazza at City Center. Wolosyn added that the City had donated the use of tents for the event. Jerrell Black gave an update on the Olde Tyme Fair scheduled for August 28 at Belleview Park. Wolosyn added that there would be a 5k race as an added activity this year. Chairperson Bertoluzzi asked ifthere would be an admission fee. Black responded that it had not been decided at this time. Discussion continued, including who would be staffing the art booth the Commission will be hosting at the Fair. VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS Janet Moore said she had no report on the Parks and Recreation Commission since she was not able to attend the last meeting, but that she planned to be at the next meeting . Jerrell Black spoke about a card he had received from Parks and Recreation Commission Youth Member Chris Jones following a going away celebration held for Chris at the last Parks and Recreation Commission meeting. Black spoke highly of Jones and the comments he had made in the card regarding how much he had enjoyed serving on the Commission and how he had learned how important it is to give back to your community. • Jerrell Black continued discussion on issues addressed at the last Parks and Recreation Commission meeting, including dog parks. Black said that at Monday night's Study Session the Off-Leash Task • Force would be presenting its final recommendation to City Council to request that they choose from one of the three chosen sites -Belleview Park, Centennial Park and Cushing Park. Black also mentioned a request from Bill Benton to rename Belleview Park for Englewood citizen Mr. Ed Scott. Olga Wolosyn had no news on Public Art. Vice Chairperson Moore passed on to Commission members that after discussion with Meredith Wortzel with MOA, she felt like progress had been made in the planning of the Art Show . Moore added that she would need help planning the show . VIII. DIRECTOR'S CHOICE Jerrell Black informed the Commission that the city had begun the budget process for the 2005 budget which would include a 0% increase. Olga Wolosyn added that City Council would hold its Budget Workshop on September 13. IX. COMMISSION MEMBERS' CHOICE Parks and Recreation Intern Sarah Rodriguez thanked the Commission for having her at the meeting, and said that she was enjoying working with the Department. Chairperson Bertoluzzi invited Commission members to a concert Thursday evening at the DU Concert Hall featuring the Colorado Symphony performing with trombonist Jim Pugh . • • • • Olga Wolosyn mentioned a performance in the Piazza sponsored by MOA, and said that she hoped school children would be performing . Wolosyn also informed the Commission that she and Jim Copenhaver had met with representatives from the Bonfils Staunton Foundation and that they had shown interest in the Exploratory Committee. IX. ADJOURNMENT The meeting was adjourned at 6:40pm .
