CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION
Minutes of November 3, 2004
The regular monthly meeting of the City of Englewood Cultural Arts Commission was called to
order at 5:46pm by Chairperson Bertoluzzi at the City Council Conference Room at the Civic Center
building.

II. REVIEW OF AGENDA
There were no changes to the agenda .

Chairperson Bertoluzzi asked ifthere were any changes to the minutes of October 6, 2004 . There
were none. The minutes were approved as presented.
IV. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS
Jim Woodward, City Council Member, was introduced. Mr. Woodward stated that he was at
tonight's meeting to observe and to offer any help where he could.
V. NEW BUSINESS

Recreation Manager, Gary Hultberg, informed the Commission that every other year in November,
the Cultural Arts Commission holds election of officers. Hultberg went on to explain that the last
election of officers was postponed until March of 2003 due to an ordinance change. Hultberg gave
the Commission the option to hold elections now or to wait until March. The Commission agreed to
postpone election of officers until March of 2005.
OLD BUSINESS
In regard to the CityCenter cultural space, Bertoluzzi announced that a meeting was held on
November 15 1h with city staff to begin the conceptual drawings. Wolosyn explained that it will be a
fairly plain, flexible space that will be good for many different uses. Wolosyn told the Commission
that when the conceptual drawings are complete, they would be brought back to the Commission for
its approval.
Bertoluzzi extended his thanks to Council Member Woodward and the other Council members for
their approval of funds to complete the space. Woodward stated that he had looked at the space with
Council Member Wolosyn and that he will do whatever he can to support the completion of it.
VII. COMMITTEE REPORTS
Wolosyn gave an update on public art, informing them that kids have damaged the piece of art at the
shuttle stop in front of the Thai restaurant. Wolosyn reported that the artwork has been taken down
and staff is working with the artist to get another piece in its place. Discussion followed regarding
insurance. Wolosyn spoke in regard to the success of the shuttle. Commission Member Stewart
asked in regard to placing art at the remaining shuttle stops. Wolosyn replied that she would follow-
up with more information .
There was no new update on the Exploratory Committee .
Vice Chairperson Moore announced that the Parks and Recreation Commission made a
recommendation to give each of the fifty finalists for the Student Art Calendar a pass to Pirates Cove.
Bertoluzzi spoke in regard to the Artists' Reception for the calendar that was held on October 28 1h.
Meredith Wortzel with the Museum of Outdoor Arts reported that there were approximately 175
people at the event with over half of the artists there. Wortzel spoke in regard to the great job by Ms.
Hoffhines. Commission members were told that the chosen artists will be recognized at the City
Council meeting on November 15th and that the calendars would be available to the public the
following day.
Commission Member Dulaney announced that Maddox Elementary students who 's artwork was
selected as a finalist was recognized today at school. Dulaney spoke in regard to the reaction of the
students and the popularity of the calendar.
VIII. EVENTS
Bertoluzzi announced the Musica Viva Trio concert on November 20th at 2pm in the Civic Center
Atrium.
IX. DIRECTOR'S CHOICE
Hultberg announced the annual Holiday Bazaar on Saturday, November 6th at the Malley Senior
Recreation Center. Hultberg stated that due to the recent expansion, there will be double the vendors . . as m preVIous years.
X. COMMISSION MEMBERS' CHOICE
Moore asked commission members for contributions of art for the Englewood Arts table at the
Englewood Recreation Center's Holiday Bazaar on December 4th and 5th. In regard to the
Englewood Arts National Juried Art Show, Moore reported that the deadline for submitting entries is
November 15th . Moore also announced that the Englewood Arts website will be operational the
beginning of December.
Bertoluzzi discussed a recent meeting with Rosanne Sterne with The Denver Foundation and Ms.
Sterne's excitement in regard to the events that are being offered. Bertoluzzi explained that such
events are exactly what The Denver Foundation is all about. Discussion followed.
Wolosyn congratulated the Englewood School District on the bond passing in the recent election.
