I. CALL TO ORDER
City of Englewood
PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION
Minutes of August 10, 2006
The regular monthly meeting of the Englewood Parks and Recreation Commission was called to
order at 5:35pm by Chairperson Gomes at Bates/Logan Park, 2938 S. Logan Street.

• II. APPROVAL OF MINUTES

Chairperson Gomes asked if there were any changes or corrections to the minutes of
July 14, 2006. Commission Member Woodward had a correction to Commission
Member Choice and his question if the request for horseshoe pits at Duncan Park
should be put on the City Council agenda. Woodward stated that his request was for
it to be placed on the next Parks and Recreation agenda to be discussed when Vice
Chairperson Waldman was present. The minutes were approved as amended.

SHERIDAN REDEVELOPMENT UPDATE
Discussion turned to an update on the Sheridan Redevelopment project. Director Black
distributed a fact sheet and an Englewood Golf Course conceptual design map. Black informed
the Commission that the City is currently finalizing the development agreement which will
encompass design course specifications; noting that the property lease agreement has been
approved by City Council and will be approved in thirty-days following publication in the
paper. Black stated that the front-nine, par 3 course and driving range will be turned over to
Miller Weingarten on September 12, 2006. The Commission was told that Bob Spada, Golf
Course Manager, has put together a golf course play plan for the duration of the course closure,
which he would review later in the meeting.
Vice Chairperson Waldman asked in regard to the bike trail. Black explained that the bike path
that runs under Hampden Avenue will be closed off near the Hampden Business Park and
diverted to the west and south until it reconnects into the existing bike path. Discussion
followed regarding pedestrian bridges . Black explained that that a new pedestrian bridge will
be constructed at Oxford where bridges for golfers and bicyclists will be separate. Black went
on to explain that 80% of funding for the bridge is from DRCOG and the remaining 20% will
be from Miller Weingarten. Commission members were told that funding for a pedestrian
bridge at Dartmouth was also approved through DRCOG.
VI. DOG PARK UPDATE
Dave Lee, Manager of Open Space, distributed program fliers for the Saturday, August 12th
dedication of the Englewood Canine Corral dog park. Lee reported that the dog park is ready
for the dedication including grass being mowed and signs posted.
VII. CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION UPDATE
Cultural Arts Commission Liaison Janet Moore reported that the Cultural Arts Commission, in
conjunction with Community Development, sponsored the first annual Artabout Englewood on
Saturday, August 5th. Moore told the Commission that the event consisted of the art shuttle taking
participants around to the various public arts at the shuttle stops in addition to visiting sixteen art
studios oflocal artists. Moore noted that she had about forty people tour her art studio that day.

Moore stated that the Cultural Arts Commission will be having a craft booth at the Funfest. Moore •
informed the Commission that Englewood Arts 2006 Concert Series will begin on Saturday,
September 23rd.
VIII. DIRECTOR'S CHOICE
Black had no items for discussion.
IX. COMMISSION MEMBERS' CHOICE
City Council Liaison Bob McCaslin reported that registrations for the Keep Englewood Beautiful
SK run are down from last year; noting that expectation is that registrations will come in the week
prior and morning of the event.
Englewood School District Liaison Karen Miller announced that school will be starting on Monday,
August 21 8
'; noting that this year will bring some opportunities to do excellent things.
Waldman spoke in regard to the Dye presentation to the Men's Club on the golf course
redevelopment.
Discussion turned to Spada and the golf course play plan for the interim the golf course is partially
closed. Spada distributed information that had been sent to annual pass holders and league and club
members that explains play options available to them . In regard to the annual pass holders , Spada
explained that annual pass holders would have one of two options : receiving a pro-rated refund •
based on the length of time remaining on the pass; or extend the expiration date of the annual pass
by eighteen months. For league and club members, Spada stated that all 9-hole league and clubs
can continue play without change; all 18-hole weekday leagues and clubs will be limited to play

every other week and all 18-hole weekend leagues and clubs will be limited to play one day per
month. In addition, Spada reported that all 9-hole green fees would be reduced by $1, all 18-hole
green fees would be reduced by $2, and all league fees would be eliminated during the period of
construction. Spada reviewed a list of golf courses that have offered their assistance in
accommodating league and club members with reduced fees and/or play time during the interim.
Waldman discussed his concerns with the information Spada had presented. Black explained that
Spada and he had discussed at length all options in trying to find a balance between league play and
resident/non-resident play. Black stated that Spada had done an excellent job in finding a way to
accommodate all of the groups . Discussion followed.
Spada informed the Commission that Tim Grove with the Indoor Driving Range has given his
notice that he would be leaving the Englewood Golf Course. Waldman asked as to plans for the
space. Spada noted that there are some ideas but they first need to be evaluated before being
discussed.
Recreation Manager, Gary Hultberg, distributed Funfest fliers, telling commission members that it
will have a western theme with over sixty activities of which most will be free.
Gomes commented in regard to the e-mail that had been included in the Commission packet by a
lady who recently visited Pirates Cove, noting that it was very complimentary.
