Minutes of January 14, 1993
The regular monthly meeting of the Englewood Parks and Recreation Commission was called to order
at 5:30 p.m . by Chairman Neyer at the Englewood Servicenter Training Room.

Chairman Neyer asked if there were any additions or corrections to the minutes of December 10, 1992.
There were none. A motion was made and seconded that the minutes be approved as presented . The motion
passed unanimously.
Commissioner Waggoner entered the meeting at 5:35 p .m .
Youth Commissioner Gulley entered the meeting at 5:40 p .m .
With regard to soccer field use , Director Black reported he informed Colorado Coed Soccer League
representatives that 1993 Detention Pond soccer field use has been approved for 125 games , which is the same
number of games as was approved for play in 1992. Black reported that Jim Keiffer has replaced Larry
George as representative of the Englewood Soccer Association. Black stated that the field at Cushing Park is
being considered to serve as an "overflow" facility when additional fields are needed.
For Commission 's information, Director Black reported that all Department Directors have been
instructed by the City Manager to determine a 5 % reduction of their original 1993 operating budget to be
implemented in the event that revenues from Cinderella City decline further . Black stated he will keep the
Commission informed .
Commissioner Gerlick reviewed the 1992 Goals and Objectives and requested Commission's input for
1993 Goals and Objectives. It was suggested that 1 c . should include an information telephone number for
publication in the Englewood Herald along with meeting dates and locations. Regarding 2 c ., the Commission
felt that facility tours of the various locations could be given upon request during each Commission meeting .

5 b. was reworded, "Continue with development plan for Oxford Park." The Commission also
reworded 5 c. to read "Monitor the soccer field problem ... ", and agreed that an attempt should be made to
anticipate the future field needs of the youth soccer groups.
5 d. was eliminated. 5 h . was expanded to take place two times per year in order to check the
Commission's progress in accomplishing the goals and objectives .
Commissioner Christie recommended adding 5 i., "Monitor and encourage youth sports/recreation
programs."
Commissioner Armstrong recommended adding 5 j., spearheading the organization of certain
recreation programs at Englewood schools to coincide with the school day. Considerable discussion took place
regarding the need for cooperative efforts between School and City.
Commissioner Gerlick expressed the need for a goal to review the Englewood bicycle trail plan and
expedite the construction of a bike path link from east of Santa Fe Drive to the Platte River trail system, and
requested that 5 k. be established to accomplish this. Director Esterly will provide copies of the City's
existing Bike Route Plan for Commission's review.
Youth Commissioner Sortland recommended that a goal be established to develop a plan for activities
and programs to be held at various locations in Englewood during the summer months. It was suggested that
Youth Commission Members spearhead this goal, and to check with EDDA concerning their summer concert
schedule. Commissioner Gomes suggested that entertainment and programs at Belleview Park on July 4th
could greatly enhance the 4th of July Fireworks Program.
Item 6 was eliminated from the Commission's Goals and Objectives.
Commissioner Bannick will prepare a recap of the Commission's accomplishments in 1992, as well as
a draft of the Goals and Objectives for 1993 for the Commission's review.
Under Commissioner's Choice, Commissioner Armstrong recommended that consideration be given to
offer tours of the City as a means for promoting the many opportunities that Englewood has to offer. The
tours could be geared toward the needs of new residents, and could also provide information to existing
residents, as well as provide a tool for promoting the Parks and Recreation Commission.

Chairman Neyer questioned the City's advertising practices for the Christmas lighting contest and for
the Christmas tree recycling program.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:20 p.m.
