The regular monthly meeting of the Englewood Parks and Recreation Commission was called to order
at 5:32pm by Chairperson Gomes at Pirates Cove, 1225 W. Belleview Avenue.

AP PROV AL OF MINUTES
Chairperson Gomes asked if there were any changes or corrections to the minutes of
June 9, 2005. There were none. The minutes were approved as presented.
SCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMENT
There were no scheduled guests.
IV . UNSCHEDULED PUBLIC COMMENT
There were no unscheduled guests.
V. BELLEVIEW PARK DOG STUDY UPDATE
Black informed the Commission that the water quality study is still being completed and once it is
finalized, the results will be brought back to the Board.
VI. FRANKLIN STREET PROPERTY UPDATE
Commission members were told that the Franklin Street property realtor is continuing his work on
selling the property, which as been listed at $410,000. Discussion followed regarding the price.
Black explained that the real tor has already sold three properties in the neighborhood and has
several others listed .
VII. SHERIDAN REDEVELOPMENT UDP ATE
Black reported that there is no new development in regard to the Sheridan Redevelopment project that
could be discussed but that information should be available to the public soon. •
vm. CULTURAL ARTS COMMISSION UPDATE
There was no update for the Cultural Arts Commission.
IX. DIRECTOR'S CHOICE
Black thanked and congratulated Youth Members Laughlin and Niederjohn on their reappointment
to the Parks and Recreation Commission.
Black informed the Commission that the Englewood Parks and Recreation would be hosting the
August CPRA Director's meeting at Pirates Cove. Black explained that CPRA had asked the City
to host the meeting because of the many inquiries that had been made in regard to Pirates Cove.
Commission members were informed that a proclamation had been received proclaiming July as
Parks and Recreation Month.
X. COMMISSION MEMBER'S CHOICE
Englewood School District Liaison Karen Miller stated that installation of synthetic turf at the high
school stadium is underway . Miller reported that the School Board has reviewed the proposed design
for the Alternative's High School science lab that will be located on the southeast comer of the
building. Miller announced that Dr. McCabe has begun his Superintendent position .
Commission Member Armstrong spoke in regard to her daughter's group, Ability Specialists, coming
to Pirates Cove. Armstrong explained that due to the circumstances with the group, they need to be
very particular in where they go . Armstrong reported that they found Pirates Cove to be very easy to
watch over the group and extraordinary safe and that they now plan to bring the group every month ..
Recreation Manager Hultberg discussed the successful and smooth-running season Pirates Cove has
had, giving credit to the staff. Hultberg spoke of how Pirates Cove employs a large number of
Englewood youth.
The Commission was informed that the School District has approved the contract for the Sinclair
hockey rink. Hultberg discussed the short time frame that will be available for getting the concrete
laid before fall/winter.
In regard to the presentation by Steven Bauer at the June Commission meeting to fix the Sinclair
handball courts, Lee told the Commission that Mr. Bauer's proposal entailed going along the edge of
the court which after inspection, can not be done. Lee stated that the Street Department has offered to
assist in resurfacing the basketball courts and handball court.
Lee reported that staff met with representatives from Englewood Unleashed to review rules in the
parks, Jason Park in particular. Lee told commission members that four of the five rules agreed upon
are already posted; the fifth rule, "Dogs must be removed at the first sign of aggression" will be added .
Lee noted that the Streets Department is making the signs, which will be posted at Jason Park .
Golf Course Manager Bob Spada informed the Commission that rounds played at the Englewood Golf
Course for 2005 is a little short of rounds played in 2004; noting that rounds have stabilized across the •

nation. Spada stated that Denver is considering raising their golf green fees by $1.00 for 9-holes and
$3 .00 for 18-holes .
