HomeMy WebLinkAbout1997-07-10 POPB MINUTESPOLICE PENSION BOARD MEETING July 10 , 1997 A regular meeting of the Englewood Police Pension Board was called to order by Chairperson Norm Wood, at 1 :45 p .m . in Conference Room A, City of Englewood City Hall , 3400 South Elati Street. Members Present: Members Absent : Others Present: Norm Wood , Chairperson James Phelps, Council Appointee Frank Gryglewicz, Director of Financial Services Gary Condreay, Employee Representative Tom Burns, Mayor (with notice) Ralph "Rick" Forbes, Employee Representative (with notice) Patrick Landry, William M . Mercer, Inc . Don Mazanec, William M . Mercer, Inc . Carol Wesco at, Recording Secretary A quorum was present. * * * * * SEATING OF BOARD MEMBER Seating of re-elected Board member, Norm Wood The Board congratulated Norm Wood on being re-elected to the Board. Election of Board Chairperson/President MR. GRYGLEWICZ NO MINA TED NORM WOOD AS CHAIRPERSON. MR. PHELPS SECONDED . Ayes : Nays: Absent : Abstention : The motion carried . Phelps, Condreay, Gryglewicz None Burns, Forbes Wood APPROVAL OF MINUTES MR. GR YGLEWICZ MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF MAY 14, 1996, THE JOINT PENSION BOARD MEETINGS OF MAY 1, 1996 AND SEPTEMBER 9, 1996. MR. PHELPS SECONDED. Ayes: Nays: Absent : The motion carried. OLD BUSINESS Wood, Phelps, Condreay, Gryglewicz None Burns, Forbes * * * * * Review of Velma Brackeen Tague bankruptcy discharge . The bankruptcy court has discharged Mrs. Tague's debt. No further action will be taken. NEW BUSINESS Review of 1996 meeting attendance. The Board reviewed the 1996 meeting attendance and determined the information was correct with no action necessary . Discussion of 1997 actuarial fee schedule from William M . Mercer, Inc . MR. GRYGLEWICZ MOVED TO ACCEPT THE WILLIAM M. MERCER, INC., PROPOSED 1997 ACTUARIAL FEES OF $3,200. MR. CONDREAY SECONDED . Ayes: Nays: Absent: The motion carried . Wood, Phelps, Condreay, Gryglewicz None Burns, Forbes Consideration of benefit for Joseph Helfer. Officer Joseph Helfer has requested retirement benefit effective as of his termination date, February 9, 1997. Officer Helfer had attained 25. 064 years of service credit on that date. Police Officers Pension Board 2 MR. GRYGLEWICZ MOVED TO APPROVE A MONTHLY RETIREMENT BENEFIT IN THE AMOUNT OF $1,990.15, FOR JOSEPH HELFER EFFECTIVE FEBRUARY 10 , 1997 . MR. CONDREAY SECONDED Ayes: Nays : Absent : The motion carried . Wood, Phelps, Condreay, Gryglewicz None Bums, Forbes Consideration of benefit for Allan Stanley . Director of Safety Services Allan Stanley has requested retirement benefits effective as of his termination date, June 30, 1997 . Director Stanley had attained 27 .797 years of service credit on that date. MR. GRYGLEWICZ MOVED TO APPROVE A MONTHLY RETIREMENT BENEFIT IN THE AMOUNT OF $3,910 .92, FOR ALLAN STANLEY EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 1997 . MR. CONDREAY SECONDED Ayes : Nays: Absent : The motion carried . Wood, Phelps, Condreay, Gryglewicz None Bums, Forbes Discussion of updating plan document for IRS compliance . Mr. Mazanec stated because the deadline for IRS compliance is not until 1999 and there have been efforts to postpone that date, it is not necessary to proceed with changes at this time. Mr. Landry added that because of the Colorado State Statutes have changed to include provision for Domestic Relations Orders, they are working on uniform language for all three City plans. MEMBERS CHOICE William M . Mercer. Inc. January l. 1997. actuarial report . Mr. Landry presented the January 1, 1997, actuarial report. Discussion ensued relating to funding and future plan changes. Police Officers Pension Board 3 The Board reviewed the 1997 Colorado Public Pension Conference and determined no members would attend the September conference. MR. PHELPS MOVED TO ADJOURN. MR.
