HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000-01-13 POPB MINUTESPOLICE PENSION BOARD MEETING January 13, 2000 The regular meeting of the Englewood Police Pension Board was called to order by Chairperson Norm Wood, at 1:33 p .m. in Conference Room A, City of Englewood City Hall, 3400 South Elati Street. Members Present: Members Absent : Others Present: Norm Wood, Chairperson Gary Condreay, Employee Representative Frank Gryglewicz, Director of Financial Services James Phelps, Council Appointee Tom Bums, Mayor (notice) Ralph "Rick" Forbes, Employee Representative (notice) L. Gary Kasson, Former Police Officer Dan Brotzman, City Attorney Carol Wescoat, Recording Secretary A quorum was present. * * * * * SEATING OF BOARD MEMBER Seating of re-elected Board Member, Norm Wood The Board congratulated Norm Wood on his re-election . Election of Board Chairperson/President MR. CONDREAY NOMINATED NORM WOOD AS CHAIRPERSON/PRESIDENT . MR. PHELPS SECONDED. Ayes : Nays : Absent: Abstention : The motion carried. Phelps, Condreay, Gryglewicz None Bums, Forbes Wood APPROVAL OF MINUTES MR. CONDREAY MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF APRIL 22 , 1999 AND THE SPECIAL MEETING OF JUNE 22 , 1999 . MR. PHELPS SECONDED . Ayes: Nays : Absent: The motion carried. OLD BUSINESS Wood, Phelps, Condreay, Gryglewicz None Forbes, Bums * * * * * No old business was discussed . NEW BUSINESS Discontinuance of benefit for Orville Wallace . Mr. Orville Wallace died on November 18 , 1999 . Mr. Wallace had no surviving beneficiaries . MR. CONDREAY MOVED TO DISCONTINUE BENEFITS AS OF THE NOVEMBER 1999 BENEFIT PAYMENT . MR. PHELPS SECONDED . Ayes : Nays : Absent: The motion carried . Wood , Phelps , Condreay, Gryglewicz None Forbes, Bums FPP A second and third quarter report. The Board reviewed the second and third quarter statements from the Fire and Police Pension Association . Acknowledgement of appreciation from retirees The Board reviewed the notes of appreciation from Orville Wallace and Duane Jarred . Police Officers P ension B oard 2 1999 Spousal verification completed. Ms . Wescoat reported the receipt of continued eligibility verification was received from all surv1vmg spouses . Consideration of request from Ken Leff. Mr. Ken Leff has requested the Boards approval to contact Plan retirees to provide information to the retirees of the Retired peace Officers of Colorado. The Board discussed their concerns in providing Police Officers personal information . MR. PHELPS MOVED TO APPROVED PERMITTING A "ONE TIME" SER VICE OF PROVIDING MAIL LABELS FOR THE MAILING OF ST AMPED, UNSEALED ENVELOPES THAT HAD THE CITY OF ENGLEWOODS RETURN ADDRESS . MR. CONDREAY SECONDED . Ayes: Nays : Absent : The motion carried . Wood, Phelps, Condreay, Gryglewicz None Forbes, Burns Consideration of request from L. Gary Kasson . L. Gary Kasson has requested consideration of credited service for his service period with the Lakewood Police Department prior to joining the Englewood Department. The Board discussed the possibility of allowing service credit from former employers. Chairperson Wood indicated that his recollection of the Plan and Colorado State Statutes at the time Mr. Kasson left the department was that other department service credit was to be included only by the last department where the participant worked at retirement. His recollection was that intermediate departments were not liable for the added service credit. The Board will research past Plan and Colorado State Statutes provisions to assist with the determination of adding Mr. Kasson ' s Lakewood service to his Englewood retirement benefit accrual. Review of 1999 meeting attendance. The Board reviewed the 1999 attendance report . Police Officers Pension Board 3 Consideration of 2000 actuarial optional calculations. Chairperson Wood requested that the actuaries include a calculation that provides an increase of $50 or $100 per month increase for all participants retired as of January 1, 1999 effective January 1, 2001. The Board agreed supported the request . Status of Letter of Determination . Ms . Wescoat reported that there was no information from the IRS regarding the Letter of Determination .
