HomeMy WebLinkAbout2000-10-12 POPB MINUTESPOLICE PENSION BOARD MEETING October 12, 2000 The regular meeting of the Englewood Police Pension Board was called to order by Chairperson Norm Wood, at 1 :36 p.m. in Administrative Services Conference Room , City of Englewood Civic Center, 1000 Englewood Parkway. Members Present: Members Absent: Others Present: Norm Wood, Chairperson Gary Condreay, Employee Representative Frank Gryglewicz , Director of Finance and Administrative Services Ralph "Rick" Forbes, Employee Representative James Phelps , Council Appointee Tom Burns, Mayor (Notice) Byron Wicks , Englewood Police Officer (arrived 1:38 p.m.) Dan Brotzman, City Attorney (arrived 1 :38 p.m.) Carol Wescoat, Recording Secretary A quorum was present. * * * * * APPROVAL OF MINUTES MR. FORBES MOVED TO APPROVE THE MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF JULY 13, 2000. MR. PHELPS SECONDED. Ayes: Nays: Absent: Abstention: The motion carried. Wood , Forbes, Gryglewicz, Phelps None Burns Condreay Mr. Brotzman and Mr. Wicks arrived at 1 :38 p.m. * * * * * OLD BUSINESS Review of J anuarv l, 2000 Actuarial Report Mr. Gryglewicz reviewed the corrected actuarial report and the proposed retiree increase . MR. GRYGLEWICZ MOVED TO ACCEPT THE JANUARY 1, 2000 ACTUARIAL REPORT. MR.CONDREAY SECONDED. Ayes: Nays : Absent: The motion carried. Wood , Condreay , Forbes, Gryglewicz, Phelps None Burns Discussion ensued regarding the proposed retiree increase of either $50 or $100 per month. MR. PHELPS MOVED TO RECOMMEND TO CITY COUNCIL A BENEFIT INCREASE EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2001 OF $100 FOR RETIREES RETIRED PRIOR TO DECEMBER 31 , 1998 WITH A $50 INCREASE FOR SURVIVING SPOUSES . MR. FORBES SECONDED. Ayes: Nays: Absent: The motion carried. NEW BUSINESS Wood , Condreay, For bes , Gryglewicz, Phelps None Burns Notification of George Mason death. George Mason died on September 5, 2000. Mr. Mason's spouse had preceded him in death. No further benefits are payable . The benefit paid for the month of September will be the final payment. FPP A has been notified of the death. Consideration of benefit request from Clavton F ornington Clayton Forington was a police officer from July 1, 1975 to September 22 , 2000. Mr. Forington has completed the required 25 years of service and has requested retirement benefits. MR. CONDREAY MOVED TO APPROVE A MONTHLY BENEFIT OF $2,273 .63 FOR CLAYTON FORINGTON EFFECTIVE SEPTEMBER 23 , 2000. MR. FORBES SECONDED. The Board reviewed the quarterly and annual statements from the Fire and Police Pension Association. Notification of Gary Condreav's term expiration . Gary Condreay's term expires December 31, 2000. Nominations will be solicited and an election held to fill the vacant position of the Board. MEMBERS CHOICE Byron Wicks reviewed his employment service with the City of Glendale and the Larimer County Sheriffs Department. Mr . Wicks understands that the service with Glendale is included as service time for the calculation of benefit for the Englewood Plan. He also requests the Board consider adding his time with Larimer County toward his service credits. Chairperson Wood recalled approving service credit for the period Mr. Wicks was with Glendale. The Board will review the documentation on file and revisit the matter to verify credit was approved for the service as a Glendale police officer. Chairperson Wood stated that it is his understanding that the Colorado State Statutes allow for service credits to transfer between municipalities , but not from sheriffs departments . Mr. Wicks will review the Colorado State Statutes and will contact the Board if he finds any discrepancy with Chairperson Wood's statement. MR. FORBES MOVED TO ADJOURN. MR.CONDREAY SECONDED .
