HomeMy WebLinkAbout2003-11-13 FPB MINUTES• FIREFIGHTERS PENS ION BOARD MEETING November 13, 2003 A regubr me eting of the Englewood Firefighters Pension Board was called to order by Chairperson Jay Seay at 3:30 p.m. in the City Council Conference Room of the Englewood Civic Center, 1000 Englewood Parkway. Members Present: Members Absent: Others Present: A quorum was present. Jay Seay. Chairperson, Employee Representati ve Michael Ba llin ger, Employee Representative Frank Gryglewicz. Director of Finance and Administrative Services Kieth Lockwood , Employee Representative Bev Bradshaw, Mayor Gary Kasson, Council Appointee (w ith notice ) Don Seymour, Retired Vo lun teer Firefighter and Mari lyn Seymour Dan Brotzman, City Attorney Carol Wescoat, Recording Secretary Police Officers Pension Plan Board Members Ruth Ryerson. Chief Executive Officer, FPPA Cathy Johnson, Investment Analysis, FPPA * * * * * The Joint Meeting of the Police Officer Pension Plan and Firefighters Pension Plan resumed at 3:30 p.m . The joined the Police Officers Board members, Norm Wood, George Egri and James Phelps. Other persons attending were Ruth Ryerson and Cathy Johnson of FPPA, Dan Brotzman, Donald and Marilyn Seymour. Ruth Ryerson, Chief Executive Officer, Fire and Police Pension Association presented an overview of their fund. Cathy Johnson, Investment Analysis, Fire and Police Pen sion Association, reviewed their inve s tment policies and philosophy. Mayor Bradshaw stated that it was important that the Boards recei ve timely information to assess the current funding of the Plan s. She said that it is important that the Boards received quarterly statements. Ms. Ryerson said that Ms. Wescoat's e-mail had been brought to her attention and tha t FPPA will continue to provide quarterly statements. The amended memo sho uld be forth commg. At -+:00 p.m. the Board took a recess while Ms. Ryerson. Ms. Johnson and the Police Officers Pension Plan Board members left. At 4:05 p.m. the meeting resumed. APPROVAL OF MINUTES MAYOR BRADSHAW MOVED TO ACCEPT THE MINUTES OF THE PENSION BOARD MEETING OF JULY 10. 2003. MR. GRYGLEWICZ SECONDED. Ayes: ays: Absent: The motion carried. OLD BUSINESS Seay. Ballinger, Bradshaw, Gryglewicz, Lockwood None Kas so n * * * * * No old business was discussed. NEW BUSINESS Review of FPPA Volunteer and Firefighters Plan Statements Mr. Gryglewicz reviewed the FPPA statements. Discussion ensued regarding the fundin g s tatu s and notifying City Council of diminishing assets. Notification of Death of Helen PeITin . Helen PeITin, s urvivor of George PeITin, died on October 11, 2003. No further benefit is payable. Consideration of benefit for theSurvivor of Daniel Wegener. Daniel Wegener. retired firefighter passed away October 29, 2003. Daniel is survived by his spouse, Judith Wegener. MR. LOCKWOOD MOVED TO APPROVE A MONTHLY SURVIVORS BENEFIT FOR JUDITH WEGENER OF $1,070.25 COMMENCING NOVEMBER 2003 AND A ONE-TIME DEATH BENEFIT OF $500.00. MR. BALLINGER SECONDED. Wescoat has solicited nomination s for candidate s and w ill co ndu ct an e lect ion to fill Mr. Ballinger"s exp ired term. Board discus s ion of L. Garv Ka sso n . The Board di sc us sed Mr. Kasso n ·s cuJTent he alth and agreed to request that City Co uncil appoint a replacement to se rve the remainder of Mr. Kas so n 's term. Hi s term will expire on January 31. 2005 . * * * * * MEMBERS CHOICE Mr. Seymour requested copies of the FPPA quarterl y statements. The Board agreed that he will be provided copies of the quarterly statements. Mayor Bradshaw informed the Board that she will not seek to serve as Mayor after the new council is seated. She said that she enjoyed serving on the Board and wished them well with the ne w Mayor. MR. LOCKWOOD MOVED TO ADJO URN. MR. BALLINGER SECONDED. Ayes: Nays: Absent: The motion canied.
