PRESENT: Bruce Hogue,. Al Quaintance,. Betty Dounay,. Joe Rathburn,. Uirginia Johnson,. Gerald SaMpson,. Lois Sterling REGRETS: John Peterson,. Bev SiMon ALSO PRESENT: Barbara Hogue,. Susan Uan Dyke,. City Council Representative,. Sharon Winkle,. Director of Libraries,. Donna 6ottberg,. Recording Secretary Roll call was taken and a quoruM declared present. There were no schedule d or unscheduled visitors. Mr. Hogue turned the Meeting over to Ms. Winkle for the Oirector~s Report Ms. Winkle brought forth for discussoion the docuMent,. Policy on Suspension of Library Privileges,. which incorporated suggested clarification of wording as to intent. This policy is Meant to deal with extreMe cases. The reason behind this policy was explained by Ms. Winkle. 87-11 MOTION: That the Policy on Suspension of Library Privileges be accepted as presented. Moued by: Gerald SaMpson Seconded by: Joe Rathburn Motion carried. Ms. Winkle brought forth for d iscus sion 2 proposed revisions to the Englewood Public Library Policies docuMent . After discussion it was decided that these 2 revisions would clarify the existing policy. 87-15 MOTION: To accept the two revisions to the Englewood Public Library Polic ies as presented to clarify the docuMent. Moued by: Al Quaintance Seconded by : Joe Rathburn Motion carried. Ms. Winkle presented a brief update on the AutoMation of the Library DepartMent. Purchase of the Public Access Catalog <PAC> hardware and software has been approved for approxiMately $10,.000. This should be i nstal led in late suMMer or early fall . There will be an orientation for Board and Council at that tiMe. -1 - Today the original contract with Oynix. Inc. was aMended to include a new Means of access to the Source Code. This Means EPL could haue continued use of the systeM even if Dynix should go out of business. This is a norMal clause in contracts for purchase of coMputer software. There is no cost to EPL for this aMendMent. An aMendMent to the original Oynix contract regarding the Interface Module is pending. Ms. Winkle discussed the purpose for the aMendMent. There were no objections to Mouing towards its finalization. Director's Choice Ms. Winkle brought to the attention of the Board a copy of a letter sent to Ms. Lighthall addressing her concerns froM the previous Meeting. The Board felt Ms. Winkle covered the concerns of Ms. Lighthall very well. Ms. Winkle has not heard directly froM Ms. Lighthall since the letter was Mailed. Ms. Winkle brought forth the docuMent Selected Statistics of 18 Colorado Public Libraries with Operating Budgets Greater Than $iOO.OOO. After discussion Ms. Winkle noted that next Month she would have further statistics on these coMparatiue figures. Ms. Winkle passed around the new SuMMer Reading PrograM brochure prepared by PrograM Specialist. Barbara Sproat. EPL will not follow the state theMe this year. ChairMan's Report Gaue an update on the National Library Card CaMpaign. noting that when the percentages of Englewood school children holding an active Library cards were received. a coMMittee would be appointed to study the results and forward inforMation to the National CoMMittee. Board MeMbers received their CLA MeMbership cards in the Mail along with inforMation regarding upcoMing events. May 16. a workshop for trustees at Aurora Public Library <Al Quaintance and Gerald SaMpson plan to attend). May 15 a prograM at Idaho Springs (Hank Long and Lelle HolMes will attend). On May 29 at Auraria caMpus. and June 19 at Regis College. Mr. Hogue suggested that everyone take a look at the Suggestion Bulletin Board in the Main Library. Ms. Winkle noted that anonyMous COMMents that coMe in are answered at the option of the Director. Mr. Hogue thanked Gerald SaMpson for bringing the refreshMents for this evening. MeMbers 7 Choice Al Quaintance announced that there will be a Book Sellers fair on May 29 and 30. -2 - • • • • • • Ms. Johnson noted she was trying to contact the Linquist faMily to notify theM the Library has a picture of a MeMber of the f aMily. CoMMittee Reports The Board/Staff picnic will be held August 1 at Cushing Park. It was suggested that recent staff retirees and recently resigned Board MeMbers~ plus volunteers be invited. The Budget CoMMittee Met earlier this evening and will report to the Board regarding the 1988 Board Budget at the June Meeting.
