Mr. Quaintance turned the Meeting over to Sharon Winkle who
i ntr o duced Joan HinkeMeyer . InforMation Services AdMinistrator .
Ms . Hink e Me yer gave details for the Open House planned for
Thur s day. S e pteMber 10. The hours suggested for the Open House
ar e 6:30 -8:30 p.M. She asked for the help and involveMent of the
Board MeMber s. The Boar d thanked Ms. HinkeMeyer for the
inforMa tion presented.
Ms . HinkeMeyer introduced Haney Bunker. trained archivist for the
Library's Local History Collection. Ms. Bunker presented
s e lected statistics on the Library for the past 60 years. Haney
gave a brief explanation as to how the Local History collection
is being preserved and organized for use. The Board thanked
Haney for the very inforMative presentation.

a u toMated systeM on both overdue Mater i al and reserve iteM s. Mr.
Long provided saMples of the notices and explained the proces s
froM beginning to Mailing. A question and answer period
followed. The Board thanked Hank for his presentation.
Oirector's Report
Ms . Winkle gave a brief background on our book processing
procedure and asked Mr. Long to explain why the library is asking
tha t this process be brought back i n-house for 1988. Hank
presented reasons. in depth. for wanting to return this process

to the Library and explained the reasons for funds requested in
·the 1 988 Budget.
Ms . Winkle explained the upcoMing changes in the parking area to
the Horth of the Library. Uith a Map of the area she noted the
new access froM Elati Street and the additional parking spaces
for both patrons and eMployees. As inforMation. she noted that
the old King Soopers building would be deMolished very soon.
That area will be developed late in the year into retail space.
The City will explore the possibility of redoing Girard at
Cherokee and Englewood Parkway. Making a bet~er throughway. Ms.
Winkle gave further inforMation regarding the Downtown
OevelopMent progress.
Ms . Winkle gave a brief update on the Contributors Club. The
printing of the insert has been redone. She hopes to introduce
the Club at the Open House in SepteMber. She and Hank are
developing the procedures.
She as ked the Board nenbers to be available at the Open House to
provide infornation to patrons regarding the Contributors Club.
Ms. Winkle received order forns at the Anerican Library
Associatior1 <ALA> Conference regarding the Library Card Canpaign.
Mr. Long has received additional infornation fron the AutoMated
Managenent Sys teM and Barbara Sproat. PrograM Specialist. has
received infornation fron the schools. Ms. Winkle plans to send
for a kit explaining the caMpaign. She plans to focus our
canpaign on the 5 eleMentary schools in Englewood. Plans are to
have the infornation available for the Open House and start the
canpaign in late SepteMber or early Octob er .
As infornation, Ms. Winkle noted that the sales tax revenues
year -to -date is 1X below the budget figure. The June revenue is
.5X above budget. The Library has had to Make expenditure
adjustnents. Just under $10.000 has been cut at this tine.
ChairMan's Report
Mr. Quaintance noted that "Books by Uire" is a service now
available fron the Booksellers. copied after the "flowers by
Wire" by the florists.
Ho nenbers' choice connents.
Connittee Reports
Mr. Peterson noted that the plans are going ahead for the
Board/Staff picnic on August 1 at Cushing Park. He will be
contacting Board nenbers this week. Donna Gottberg will get a
list of the staff that plan to attend. Recent retirees.
volunteers and forner Board Menbers will also be invited.
There was no unfinished business.
The Statistical Report for June 1987 was briefly discussed.
