Hna11P turned the Meeting ouer to Ms. Winkle for t he lh rrct or•:. RrporJ;. Ms . Winkle gaue a brief update on the Oynix -IRUIHG project and g ~11e inforMafjon regarding the LSCA grant proposal. The four l thraries <AdaMs County , Douglas Count.y , Universit.y of Southern Colorado, and Englewood Public) requested funding to forM a network linking the four librries to IRUIHG. The grant requested $159,000 3 but $50 ,625 was approved. The libraries are preparing a M11lti -yPar deuelopMent of the project beginning with so ftware deuelopMrnt. Hank Long, Library Seruices AdMinistrator , is the project adMinistrator. He will be present at the SepteMber Meeting to answer questions and giue a progress report. The Money s hould he auailable in October. More LSCA Monies will be auailable next year for coMpetitiue award. Ms. Winkle relayed a Message fron Joan Hinkeneyer" InforMation Service s AdMinistrator. A flier was distributed announcing the Open House 3 SepteMber 10. The press has heen notified and inuitations will be nailed to selected MeMbers of the COMMunity. There was brief djscussion nn the uarious duties volunteered by the Board MeMhers. .Joan HinkeMeyer will be present at next Month's Meeting to finalize the plans. Director's Choice A Collection OeuelopMent stateMent was distributed this evening and she asks on beha lf of Joan HinkeMeyer that all Bo~rd MeMbers becoM e faniliar with it. This is a working docuMent for staf f in selecting Materials for the collection. Joan will be at the SepteMher Me~ting for further di9cussion of this docuMent. - 1 //V 9 F Th ~rP was brief discussion on the Restricted Special Uses of Public Service Area MeMoranduM. This restricts personal use of the public equipMent in the library. The Board accepted the MeMoranduM as inforMation. A copy has been forwarded to the City Manager. InforMation regarding the Library grace period is available in the forM of a handout for the public. This handout explains the si tuation fully. Sharon gave brief inforMation tax collections for the City. budgeted aMount for July. regarding the July sales and use Collections were 6X above the The Library has had its first Budget Review. A second reuiew is scheduled for Friday~ August 11. She should have More inforMation for the SepteMber Meeting. Sharon will have back surgery on Monday> August 17> at Swedish Hospital. She is planning being off work for about one Month. Hank Long will be Acting Director for that tiMe. ChairMan's Report Uirginia Johnson is the first person to becoMe a Gold Card MeMber of the Contributors Club. Mr. Hogue presented her with her gold card identification and a print of the hi~toric Englewood Map. John Peterson is the first person to becoMe a Local History Associate of the Contributors Club. Mr. Hogue and Mr. Quaintance will be Manning a booth at the Open House giuing inforMation on the Contributors Club. Applications will be distributed starting this Thursday to all patrons who register to use the Library. There was brief discussion on the Hational Library Card CaMpaign. Our Materials froM AMerican Library Association will be received about the first week in SepteMber. This includes posters> which will be placed at schools. We want to reinforce to the Englewood schools the good job they are doing in seeing that Most children haue cards. Mr. Hogue asked for help in the endeavor to contact schools. Mr. Quaintance volunteered to help. October is the target date for the National CaMpaign. ChairMan's Choice Mr. Hogue noted the inforMation in tonight's packet regarding the Colorado Library Association conference in October at Fort Collins. There will be tiMe to look ouer this inforMation and advise the secretary if MeMbers plan to attend by the next Board Meeting. MeMbers' Choice The Board thanked Beu SiMon for serving refreshMents this evening > and wished her husband> Dr. John SiMon> a speedy recovery froM his recent heart attack. CoMMittee Re port s The Board -S taff picnic was held August 1 at Cushing Park. Mr. Peterson reported that there was a sMall nuMber in attendance. hut a n enjo yable tiMe was had by all. Sharon Wink l e thanked the Board for all their help in planning the picnic. The Statistical Report for July was briefly discussed. Mr. Hogue asked if the front entrance ceMent work could be iMproued. The Board agreed that this area was unsightly and potentially dangerous . Ms. Winkle replied that she has been working with the Building Services and asking that this work be don e. She hopes to haue More news on this after the friday Budget Meeting with Mr. McCown.
