HoveMber 10, 1987
The regular Meeting of the Englewood Public Library Advisory
Board was called to order by Uice-ChairMan Al Quaintance at 7:32
p.M.
PRESEHT: Al Quaintance, Betty Dounay, Uirginia Johnson,
John Peterson , Joe Rathburn, Gerald SaMpson,
Lois Sterling
REGRETS: Bruce Hogue, Beu SiMon
ALSO PRESEHT: Susan Uan Dyke, City Council Representative
Mr. Ken Haraldsen
Sharon Winkle, Director of Libraries
Donna Gottberg, Recording Secretary
Roll call was taken and a quoruM declared present.
Mr. Ken Haraldsen wanted to sit in on the Board Meeting and he
recoMMended that an article entitled ul Love Books" in the
Readers Digest be read.
Mr. Quaintance turned the Meeting over to Ms. Winkle for the
Director's Report .
Ms. Winkle distributed copies of the CEH <Colorado EndowMent for
the HuManities) grant proposal. Ms. Winkle gave background on
this grant and how the Monies would be used should the Library be
fortunate enough to receive it.
As inforMation, Ms. Winkle plans to have the Minutes froM
Planning CoMMittee Meetings distributed to the Board. She asks
if there are any iteMs for discussion regarding the 1988 Action
Plan they be subMitted to her. She will supply a copy of the
1987 Action Plan to any MeMber who needs one.
Director's Choice
Ms. Winkle distributed draft copies of a proposed aMendMent to
the EPL policies for review. This aMendMent clarifies the
parental responsibility for Material checked out by children.
Copies of a related iteM were distributed stating that parents
have the responsibility for their children's choice of Materials
and also the safe and tiMely return of Materials. The Board will
be asked to approve the aMendMent at the OeceMber Meeting.
Ms. Winkle distributed a flyer for a prograM at the Library
planned for National Children's Book Week.
Ms. Winkle stated that the plaque for PlatinuM contributors
should be in place in the Library by DeceMber •

The Girard/Elati intersection should be coMpleted soon. The
library/City Hall will have gained a few parking spaces over the
previous parking layout and the area will be better lit.
ChairMan's Choice
Mr. Quaintance noted that he received a copy of the EPL Calendar
for the Month of HoveMber. Ms. Winkle stated that the Monthly
calendar will be Mailed to all Contributor Club MeMbers beginning
with the HoueMber calendar.
Mr. Hogue left a copy of a questionnaire regarding Trustee
Workshops froM the CLA Convention to be duplicated and
distributed to Board MeMbers this evening. Mr. Quaintance asked
that these be filled out tonight and turned over to hiM for
Mailing.
Mr. Quaintance pointed out an article by Deputy State Librarian,
Haney Bolt in the Centennial newsletter of the State Library.
MeMbers' Choice
The Board thanked Ms. Dounay for the refreshMents this evening.
Ms. Uan Dyke announced that there are 1 new Council MeMbers. She
is looking forward to the continued good relationship with the
Council. She also plans to continue working with and sitting in
on the Advisory Board Meetings.
Mr. Haraldsen stated that he had recently presented a booklet he
wrote (on antique farM Machinery> to the Library. He gaue
background into his writings.

The Statistical Report for October 1987 was briefly discussed.
Mr. Quaintance reMinded the Board MeMbers to continue to look for
and seek out iteMs for the Local History collection.

Library Advisory Boa rd February 1, 1988, I do not desire a
second term.
I thank you along with Mayor Pro-Tem Bradshaw and Council for
affording me the opportunity of being a part of this efficient,
people-oriented library.
I am proud to have been involved in the affairs of this friendly
and progressive city .
