HomeMy WebLinkAbout1988-02-09 PLB MINUTES• • • MINUTES ENGLEWOOD PUBLIC LIBRARV ADUISORV BOARD February 9. 1988 The regular Meeting of the Englewood Public Library Advisory Board was called to order at 7:30 p.M. by ChairMan Al Quaintance. PRESENT: REGRETS: ALSO PRESENT: Al Quaintance, John Peterson. Betty Dounay, Bruce Hogue. Uirginia Johnson. Joe Rathburn. Lois Sterling, Dorothy Tatton Bev SiMon Alex Habenic~t. Council Representative. Mrs. Barbara Hogue. Sharon Winkle. Library Director, Donna Gottberg, Recording Secretary Roll call was taken and a quoruM declared present. Th~re .were no scheduled or unscheduled visitors. ChairMan Quaintance introduced Ms. Dorothy Tatton to the Board and she was welcoMed. Her terM of office will run to 2/1/92. Mr. Quaintance turned the Meeting over to Ms. Winkle for the Oir~ctor~s Report. The 1987 Annual Report was distributed to the Board. Ms. Winkle highlighted various sections of the Narrative Report. also included. There was brief discussion and COMMents by the Board. Ms. Winkle distributed the 1987 Annual Statistics and these were briefly discussed. In conjunction with the Statistics. Ms. Winkle presented graphs and charts of various 10 year figures. There was brief discussion on the Contributors Club. including the plaque. the volunteer hours for 1987 and the CaMpbell Soup Label CaMpaign. Ms. Winkle gave brief background and explanation of the Proposed AMendMent to the Colorado Library Law subMitted by Representative SaMuel WilliaMs. Englewood is interested in the aMendMent which would allow Municipalities to withdraw froM library districts or county libraries subsequent to their forMation. 88-6 MOTIOH: That the Board resolve to support the intent of the proposed aMendMent and urge that the question of newly annexed areas be specifically addressed. Winkle distributed a new Page 1 for the 1988 Action Plan wh ich includes the date of adoption of the Plan by the Board. Hew signage for the Conference RooMs will be included in the c oMplete r e-signage for the Library. As i nforMation. Ms. Winkle stated that forMer State Librarian, Anne -Marie falsone. was killed in a plane crash recently near Dura ngo. Ms . Winkle r ecently attended a 10-day seMinar called The Rocky Mountain PrograM. She felt it was a very worthwhile seMinar. ~hairMan's Choice Mr . Quaintance distributed a list of duties expected of the Adv i sory Board along with a current roster of Board MeMbers and a current list of staff MeMbers. Letters of appreciation have been sent to "Bruce Hogue for his service as ChairMan and to Gerald SaMpson for his 1 years of s ervice. A card was also sent to Susan Uan Dyke during her stay i n the hospital. Mr. Quaintance noted that the Donor's fund balance at the end of 1987 was $8,813.11. This Money is used at the discretion of the L i brary Director upon the advice of the Board. MeMbers' Cho i ce John Peterson visited briefly in Paris and had a chance to tour the Bibliothegue Hationale. Uirgin i a Johnson will not be here for the March Meeting. Joe Rathburn will not be here for the March and April Meetings . Mr. Hogue sent letters to Senator Considine and Representative Paulson regarding the budget cuts discussed for the State Library . To date he has had a reply froM Senator Considine, thanking hiM for his interest. Loi s Sterling coMMented on libraries in England and how they d i ffer froM U.S. libraries . Ms . Tatton has a daughter who has worked in a London library. There was no unfinished business or coMMitte reports.
