PRES£HT: Lois Sterling, Bruce Hogue, Gerald SaMpson, Bev SiMon, Jerry Ualdes (arrived at 7:15 p.M.), Kay Uan Ualkenburg, Dorothy Wheelehan. REGRETS: Al Quaintance, John Peterson RLSO PRESEHT: Mrs. Barbara Hogue ~ Sharon Winkle, Director of Libraries, Donna Gottberg, Recording Secretary Roll Call was taken and a quoruM declared present . There were no scheduled or unscheduled visitors. ChairMan Sterling turned the Meeting over to Ms. Winkle for the Director's Report . Ms. Winkle gave an update on the AutoMated Library Managenent SysteM <ALMS>. noting that the Library will go online, for check -ins and check-outs, on October 22, 1986. The SysteM will not be at full capacity until January of 1987, but she believes this October startup will be a good get-acquainted period for the public. The ALMS still does not have a satisfactory OCLC Interface Module (s oftware that allows catalog inforMation to be transferred fron SEMBCS to EPL). The SysteM can be used now by Library staff keystroking in inforMation. The public will be notified of the October startup date by a press release. This inforMation was followed by a question and answer period along with further discussion on the ALMS. Ms. Winkle brought forth for discussion the possibility of charging fees for certain library services. She noted that if fees were charged for standard services Englewood would no longer be considered a "Public" Library, and could actually reduce revenue to the City. Ms. Winkle stated the City will increase the Mill levy effective January 87. If AMendMent U1 should pass it could negate the Mill levy increase. Should voters approve AMendMent #4 City Council will adopt an iMMed i at e increase in sales tax in order to Maintain needed revenues. Ms. Winkle noted ther e h ad been a few Minor cuts in services already iMpleMented at the Library. We no longer give Directory -1 - q assistance ouer the telephone. This is usually credit agencies trying to locate a particular party. Many other libraries have discontinued this service. There will also be a change in our incoMe tax forM service next year. It will be Mostly self-service and we will liMit the nuMber and variety of forMs. There will be referral assistance available. but not reference assistance. Oirector's Choice Ms. Winkle distributed the latest sales tax report froM the City. If the current downward trend continues into 1987. an increased sale s tax or property tax May not be sufficient. Ms. Winkle announced that the Library has again received a $200 gift froM the Eagles Auxiliary. This gift will be used to purchase Large Print books for the collection. a collection that i s being expanded in 1987. Ms. Winkle distributed soMe new inforMative fliers that are available at the Library. One is the bibliography of the banned books. one on the grace period for the Library and for the BookMobile. plus a Halloween Party invitation and inforMation for literacy tutoring available froM Arapahoe Public Access to Libraries <APAL). ChairMan's Report Ms. Sterling brought up the subject of Joint Board Meetings. Ms. Winkle stated she brought this iteM up at the recent APAL Meeting. The APAL group said they would take it under aduiseMent and she May have an answer at the HoveMber Board Meeting. MeMbers' Choice Ms . Uan Ualkenburg bids the Board MeMbers farewell. She will have her baby next Month and will still be recuperating in OeceMber. She does not plan to reapply for MeMbership in January. She stated she has enjoyed her service on the Board. Mr. SaMpson noted he is serving with an Adult learning Group and enjoying the tiMe spent there. Beu SiMon shared a photo albuM her husband prepared for the Lion's Club to be presented to George Perrin. It contains Many photos of the rooM dedication last May.
