ENGLEWOOD PUBLIC LIBRARY ADUISORY BOARD
FEBRUARY 10, 1987
ChairMan Bruce Hogue called the regular Meeting of the Library
Ad visory Board to order at 7:31 p.M.
PRESENT: Bruce Hogue, Betty Dounay, John Peterson, Joe
Rathb urn, Gerald SaMpson, Bev SiMon, Lois Sterling

He announced the appointMent of Mrs. Johnson, who
attend the Meeting.
Roll call was taken and a quoruM declared present.
There were no scheduled or unscheduled visitors.
Mr. Hogue turned the Meeting over to Ms. Winkle for the
Director's Report.

Ms. Winkle briefly highlighted the 1986 Annual Report (narrative)
and the Statistical Annual Report. Graphs of library service
ac tiv ity were shown for both the Main library and the BookMobile
for the years 1967-86 and the years 1976-86 with discussion
·following.
The Long-Range (1986-1990) Action Plan was briefly discussed with
copies being distributed for review by the Board.
87-6 MOTIOH: That action regarding acceptance of the 1987 Action
Plan be deferred to the March Meeting.

ChairMan Hogue asked if the Board could get a copy of the
Organizational Chart. Ms. Winkle replied that these are being
prepared by the EMployee Relations OepartMent and will be
distributed when available.
ChairMan's Report
Mr. Hogue shared a "thank you" note froM the David Clayton faMily
for a contribution froM the Board to th~-ReMeMberance fund of the
Library in MeMory of David B. Clayton .
Mr. Hogue noted that the Board was now at full strength, a total
of 9 MeMbers on the Board. He felt there was no longer a need to

C hairMan Hogue noted he had received a copy of a letter sent to
Ms. Uan Ualkenburg froM Mayor Otis thanking her for her service
on the Board. He suggested that the Board draft letters to Jerry
Ualdes, Dorothy Wheelehan and Kay Uan Ualkenburg also thanking
theM for their service.
Mr . Hogue gave special thanks to Oonna Gottberg for getting the
Meeting Material prepared for this evening after being off for a
week due to illness.
MeMbers• Choice
Bev S iMon asked if the plaque wording for George Perrin had been
finalized as yet. Ms. Winkle noted that she had been unable to
c ontact Mrs. Perrin for final approval.
Ms. SiMon also asked if Mrs. Perrin had Mentioned giving the
Western History collection of George 7 s to any organization. She
would like Englewood to be considered.
Ms. S iMon also Mentioned she felt the "snow" on the little log
cabin in the Library was a nice touch.
John Peterson has accepted an appointMent by David Chandler to
the State Literacy Board. His wife lost her bid for State
Legi s lature running against Chris Paulson.
Mr. Peterson wanted to acknowledge the Many years of service by
Ethel Altenbach (recently retired). He will draft a resolution
for presentation at the March Meeting and a letter will be sent
t o Ms. Altenbach along with the resolution, at a future date.
Gerald SaMpson asked if the Arapahoe County Joint Boards would
have future Meetings. Ms. Winkle replied stating that she
brought up the subject at an APAL Meeting, but the other MeMbers
felt it better if the Meetings were put on "hold" for the tiMe
being. Ms. Winkle will ask again at a future Meeting.
Ms.Sterling asked if the Board was planning an orientation in
March for the new Board MeMbers. After discussion it was decided
that the March 10th Meeting would begin at 6:00 p.M. for new
MeMbers and old MeMbers wishing to tour the Library. At 6:30 a
light supper would be served, after which the slide prograM
"Missy Goes To The Library'' would be shown. The regular Board
Meeting will begin a t 7:30 p.M.
Ms. Oounay noted for the Board•s inforMation that John Rotolo was
in Swedish Hospital after suffering a stroke.
As inforMation, Ms. Winkle noted ·that United Cable taped the
Chinese Hew Vear prograM here at the Library on January 24. rt
was shown on Channel 10 at 6:00 p.M. this evening. The Libra r y
will recJri-ve a copy of the tape froM United Cable.
