Elati St ., En9lewood, CO 80110 (303)762-2560 ijl!:! .,. ...... _______ _J1rn·11;; ..,,., ···: MINUTES Englewood Public Library Board March 13, 1990 The regular meeting of the Englewood Public Library Board was called to order by Chairman John Peterson at 7:35 p.m. PRESENT: John Peterson, Larilyn Ashlock, Douglas Cohn (arrived at 7:40 pm) Mary Dounay, Virginia Johnson, Dorothy Tot ton ALSO PRESENT: Sharon Winkle, Director of Library and Recreation Services, Alex Habenicht, City Council Representative to the Board, George Reed, Central Colorado Library System (CCLS) Automation Specialist, Donna Gottberg, Recording Secretary Roll call was taken and a quorum declared present. There were no unscheduled visitors. Chairman Peterson introduced George Reed, Owner of Design Templates under contract with CCLS to provide automation support. Mr. Reed gave a brief background of the IRVING Library Network and the CD-ROM workstations. All Board members then went to the Technical Services area of the Library for a demonstration of the equipment. Following the Board thanked Mr ·. Reed for the information and the demonstration. A five minute demo video was shown to the Board regarding the ICMA Action Pak; an orientation program for Board members. The full video is for sale for $300. Discussion followed noting this tape would be helpful .to all Boards and Commissions in the City. Mr. Peterson would be willing to talk with agencies in the area who already have used the video and get their reactions. He hopes to report back on this at the next meeting. At that time, if interviews are favorable the Board would recommend to the City Manager that the City purchase the tape. Director Winkle gave an update on the Englewood Oral History Project. Interviews by Cheryl Patterson-Black have begun. Ms. Patterson-Black is Professor of Oral History and Nancy Bunker is the History Project Director. Brief discussion followed. Director Winkle read regarding the use of Historical Society. have the Society use a letter from Mayor Van Dyke to Bev Simon the City logo on membership cards for the Ms. Van Dyke stated the City was proud to the logo. Director Winkle discussed the suggested questions regardeing Library Services for the City survey. The firm which the City has hired to prepare the survey will determine the final questions. Discussion followed. Director Winkle noted that in the packet sent to members earlier was information on the Governor's Conference and events preceding it. She asked members to read and mark their calendars for dates they might want to attend. Director Winkle gave a brief background on the conference. Director's Choice A flier from the Colorado Library Association (CLA) was distributed with information regarding the upcoming Spring meetingr Ms. Winkle noted that all Board members are members of the CLA There was no Chairman's Report. Members' Choice Mr. Cohn asked why we are members of the CLA. Ms. Winkle stated we receive many mailings from them and we are kept up to date on State Library developments. Ms. Ashlock received a pin with the City logo on it from Council. She reported that all current Board members will receive them in the near future Virginia Johnson and Larilyn Ashlock (as a Committee Report) noted that suggestions for honoring Bev Simon for her devoted service to the City included naming the Library's Englewood History collection in her honor. Other suggestions were also discussed. Mary Dounay noted she had read a book review in the newspaper by Joan Hinkemeyer, Information Services Administrator. Ms. Hinkemeyer always includes Englewood Public Library byline. 90-10 MOTION: That the Board recognize Joan Hinkemeyer, Information Services Administrator, with respect and appreciation ' - .for her work at the Library and as a published author and book A reviewer. W Moved by: Mary Dounay Seconded by: Virginia Johnson Motion carried. Larilyn Ashlock asked how the search for a new Library Service Manager was coming along. Director Winkle noted the City Manager has signed the personnel requisition and job description and the position should be advertised this weekend in the Denver Post. It will also be advertised at other libraries, the City Jobline and the Colorado State Jobline. Virginia Johnson noted that Bob Gillpatrick had passed away. · During 1989 he contributed funds to the Library for purchase of videos and was active in the Historical Society. The Statistical Report for February was received. 90-10 MOTION: That the Board accept the Minutes from the February 13, 1990 meeting as presented.
