MINUTES
Englewood Public Library Advisory Board
January 10, 1989
The regular meeting of the Englewood Public Library Advisory
Board was called to order by Chairman Al Quaintance at 7:30 p.m.
PRESENT: Al Quaintance, John Peterson, Larilyn Ashlock, Mary
Dounay, Bruce Hogue, Virginia Johnson, Joe Rathburn,
Bev Simon, Dorothy Totton
ALSO
PRESENT: Barbara Hogue, Sharon Winkle, Library Director, Donna
Gottberg, Recording Secretary
Roll call was taken and a quorum declared present.
There were no scheduled or unscheduled visitors.
Mr. Quaintance turned the meeting over to Mary Dounay who gave a
slide presentation regarding the upcoming school bond election.
A question and answer period followed.
89-1 MOTION: That the Library Board endorse the school bond
referendum as a group, and give their permission to use the
Library Board name as an endorsement.
Moved by: Virginia Johnson
Seconded by: Dorothy Totton
Discussion followed.
Motion carried (2 "no" votes)
Chairman Quaintance called for nominations for Chairman for 1989.
Virginia Johnson nominated Al Quaintance.
89-2 MOTION: That the nominations for Chairman be closed.

Seconded by: Mary Dounay
Motion carried.
Al Quaintance was elected Chairman for 1989 by acclamation •

Mr. Quaintance called for nominations for Vice-Chairman for 1989.
Ms. Johnson nominated John Peterson.
89-3 MOTION: That the nominations for Vice-Chairman for 1989 be
closed.
Moved by: Bruce Hogue
Seconded by Larilyn Ashlock
Motion carried.
John Peterson was elected Vice-Chairman for 1989 by acclamation.
Mr. Quaintance turned the meeting over to Sharon Winkle for the
Director's Report.
Ms. winkle gave a brief update of the Action Plan for 1989 (which
was distributed to the Board earlier). She asks that the Board
members review the Plan and asks that comments and suggestions be
ready for the February meeting. Board agreed.
Ms. Winkle gave brief update on the distribution of Income Tax
forms and referral information. She plans to have IRS tax forms
ready for distribution by Friday, January 13th. The Colorado
forms have not yet arrived. Seven tax preparation agencies have
volunteered to be at the library to help distribute forms and
answer questions. Handouts for referrals will be readily
available for patrons. This program will be evaluated at the end
of the tax season.
The Central Colorado Library System (CCLS) contract for
reciprocal borrowing has been approved by Council. The contract
runs from 10-1-88 through 9-30-91.
There was a demonstration of the public address system owned by
the Library. This system was -found to be very capable. This
system may be used by City-affiliated groups upon request.
Ms. Winkle distributed excerpts from the 1989 Budget for both the
Library and the Board. She asks the Board to review and to be
thinking of needs for the 1990 Budget.
Ms. Winkle noted she would have available at the next meeting,
the Library Department's Narrative Annual Report along with
charts and graphs for 1988. The Annual Statistical Report was
distributed this evening but will be discussed along with the
charts and graphs at the February meeting.
Ms. Winkle distributed information regarding a free seminar to be
held January 27 & 28.
Chairman's Report
Mr. Quaintance distributed several documents regarding the
Library Advisory Board membership, as a refresher to the members.
Members' Report
Bev Simon shared a brochure made by Erica Byrne, on Englewood,
called The City with History. Bev urges everyone interested to

attend the Englewood Historical Society meeting on Thursday
evening at the Library.
Mary Dounay asked if a picture panel regarding the needs of the
school district, prepared by Dr. Simon could be placed in the
library. Ms. Winkle will contact Dr. Simon. Ms. Dounay has a
video of the slide presentation shown this evening on the bond
election. Ms. Winkle said that the video will be made available
for public use.
Bruce Hogue has written a letter to Council stating his wish to
be considered for reappointment to the Board.
Larilyn Ashlock's son participated in the big horn sheep roundup
noted in an article in the Rocky Mountain News.
No committee reports.
There was brief discussion on the December 1988 Statistical
Report.
89-4 MOTION: That the Board accept the Minutes from the December
13, 1988 meeting as presented.
