MINUTES
Englewood Public Library Advisory Board
February 14, 1989
The regular meeting of the Englewood Public Library Advisory
Board was called to order by Chairman Al Quaintance at 7:29 p.m.
PRESENT: Al Quaintance, John Peterson, Larilyn Ashlock, Mary
ALSO
Dounay, John Gray, Virginia Johnson, Joe Rathburn, Bev
Simon, Dorothy Totten
PRESENT: Alex Habenicht, City Council Representative, Sharon
Winkle, Library Director, Donna Gottberg, Recording
Secretary
Roll call was taken and a quorum declared present.
There were no scheduled or unscheduled visitors.
Chairman Quaintance welcomed Mr. John Gray, appointed Board
member to a term expiring 2/1/93 and congratulated Mary Dounay on
her reappointment to a term expiring 2/1/93.
Mr. Quaintance turned the meeting over to Ms. Winkle for the
Director's Report.
Ms. Winkle gave a brief overview on the 1988 Annual Narrative and
Statistical Report. She presented graphs of various activities
for 1988 and previous years. There was discussion throughout the
presentation. Ms. Winkle also reported on the Sunday public
services which began January 15, 1989.
Ms. Winkle presented, for final review, the 1989 Action Plan
(draft dated 2/8/89).
89-5 MOTION: That the Board adopt the 1989 Action Plan Draft
dated 2/8/89 as written.

Ms. Winkle distributed a report on activities for children after
school. At this time there are activities at Bishop School,
presented by Penny Lommen, the Children's Reference Librarian.

The proposed State Aid to Libraries legislation is no longer
under consideration during the current legislation session.
Director's Choice
Ms. Winkle noted that work on the 1991-1995 Library Long Range
Plan is now underway via the Planning Committee, including Board
representatives Quaintance and Totton.
The Englewood Schools distributed a pamphlet regarding notable
achievements in 1988. We are pleased to say that they included
the log cabin at the Library and mention of the Library card
campaign at Bishop School.
The latest issue of Englewood Legacy, the local history
newspaper, has been distributed. Ms. Bunker has also issued a
list of 1988 Local History achievements to all Board members.
Ms. Winkle distributed an article from Colorado Libraries
regarding the handling of income tax forms at the Pikes Peak
Library District in Colorado Springs.
Another article from Colorado Libraries was distributed written
by Barbara Sproat, a former EPL staff member.
An excerpt from the Dynix Newsletter was distributed regarding
Englewood Library's involvement with IRVING.
Chairman's Report
Mr. Quaintance read a resolution from City Council regarding
attendance guidelines for Boards and Commissions. He and Ms.
Simon developed and presented recommended guidelines for the
Board's discussion. ·
89-6 MOTION: That the Board accept the attendance guidelines
document as presented, pending approval by City Attorney. This
document will be brought back to the Board with any changes.

Members' Choice
Bev Simon thanks the Englewood Public Library for their
cooperation with the Englewood Historical Society.
Dorothy Totton will be unable to attend the April Board meeting.

Alex Habenicht said that Council had expressed concern over the
Library Board's voicing support for the Englewood Schools bond
issue.
Virginia Johnson requested that a letter of thanks be sent to
Bruce Hogue for his years of service as a Board member. Mr.
Peterson consented to draft the letter.
John Gray gave family and occupational background and stated
reasons for requesting appointment to the Library Advisory Board.
There were no committee reports.
There was no discussion on the January 1989 Statistical Report.
89-7 MOTION: That the Board accept the Minutes from the January
10, 1989 meeting as presented.

Motion carried.
The Board thanked Ms. Johnson for serving refreshments this
evening.
