ENGLEWOOD PUBLIC LIBRARY
OPEN FORUM
June 13, 1989
Seven members of the public were in attendance.
Al Quaintance, Board Chairman, welcomed members of the public,
staff and Board members to the Open Forum. He introduced Sharon
Winkle, Director of Library and Recreation Services. Ms. Winkle
gave brief information regarding the recent resident user survey
and outlined the Planning Process for 1991-1995. Public comments
appear below:
Ms. Tourceneaux, 3030 s. Bannock #407
Suggests we consider sight aided materials -more talking books.
Also asks us to rent equipment to hear books. She is very
curious about many subjects, not light fiction. She also
suggested there be a minimal charge for library users, something
like $2/year might be appropriate.
Lois Lighthall, 2949 s. Logan
Do we have available through State Library, materials for people
with sight impairment?
Sharon answered that we are a liaison for the State Library for
the Blind and Physically Handicapped. We have application forms
to use for those services. We also have large print books .
Erica Byrne, 3963 s. Cherokee
She likes the library being open on Sundays. She works 2 jobs
and that is the only time she can get to the library. She also
suggest another story hour for children on Saturdays or Sundays.
Lois Lighthall
Suggests we look into giving more time for "new" books that have
a great number of pages, such as a policy giving a patron more
time over X number of pages even .if the book is "new."
George Allen, 2799 s. Downing
We need more trees on the golf course.
The library is a real pleasant place with helpful personnel. No
criticism.
Bob Wild (Littleton resident)
Wanted to share a Denver Post article on information literacy.
Asked if sometime Dr. Breivik could be asked to address the Board
and citizens on this subject.
Ms. Winkle said she could be contacted because she works in the
Denver area --Director of the Auraria Library. The Planning
Committee has copies of the final report of Dr. Breivik's
Committee .
Gerald Sampson, 3275 s. Chenango
He is involved with the adult learning program. The personnel at
the library are always pleasant and helpful. He reads current
magazines and newspapers when he visits the Library.
Randall Longcore, 3462 s. Lincoln
He has been legally blind for 3 years now and finds the library
staff wonderful over this period of time. Thanks everyone for
their help.
Lois Lighthall
She asks that we never do away with the Bookmobile. This is very
important for young people, where they form important habits.
Alex Habenicht, 515 w. Tufts
The Bookmobile saved her sanity many years ago when she first
moved into the area.
Mr. Quaintance introduced Board members, Council members present,
Lynn Roberts, Consultant fort the Planning Process 1991-1995.
Lynn Roberts gave brief comments on the process being followed.
She appreciates the efforts people have shown by coming to the
Open Forum tonight. She also appreciates the comments.
Al Quaintance reminded patrons that their comments and
suggestions are always welcome.
