HomeMy WebLinkAbout1991-12-10 INTELLECTUAL FREEDOM STATEMENTINTELLECTUAL FREEDOM STATEMENT WHEREAS the Englewood Public Library Board (hereinafter referred to as "the Board"), is convinced that unrestricted access to ideas and information is absolutely essential to the exercise of the duties and responsibilities, public or private, of every person, and, WHEREAS the Board is convinced that a person's right to have access to those ideas or that information should be abridged in no way on account of origin, age, background, or opinions, and WHEREAS the Board is convinced that ides and information should not be excluded from the Library based upon the origin, the background, or the opinions of those who contributed to their creation, and WHEREAS the Board feels the Library should provide as many different points of view on current and historical issues as practicable, and, • WHEREAS the Board takes note that the collection of the Library consists of many diverse forms, including, among others, both printed material and electronic recordings, • THEREFORE, IT IS HEREBY RESOLVES that the public shall have complete and free access to the ideas and information contained in the collection of the Englewood Public Library, subject only to those regulations necessary to maintain the collection in a condition suitable for continued use and growth.
