PRESENT: Mark Adams , Randy Penn (Council Member), Karen Pilgrim , Mike Buchanan, Stephanie Cogeos , Stephanie McNutt , Tom Kruk, Brianna Carey (Youth Member). ABSENT: Yvonne Russell (excused), Michelle Gonzalez (School Board Member) (unexcused), Julie Grazulis Also Present: Hank Long, Library Director and Deb Parker , Recording Secretary . 10 -11: That the minutes of the meeting of October 12 , 2010 be approved as written . • Moved by : Ms. Pilgrim Seconded by : Mr. Buchanan The Motion passed unanimously . Friends of the Library Please review the reverse of the Agenda for Friends events and news. Monthly Statistical and Financial Reports Mr . Adams noted that the internet use was down again . Mr . Long shared that studies have shown that more people have internet through cheaper home computers and phones with internet availabitity . Mr . Adams added that fewer people may be using the computers but time used by each user may be for a longer period of time. Discussion ensued about the process of tracking . Other Old Business 2010 Library Board Budget -Mr. Long shared that after the Englewood Reads monies are taken from the budget , there will be approximately $1 ,844 left for the Board to designate . His suggestion is to give this to the Collections budget as the line item has taken a hit the last three years . Mr. Kruk asked about buying a couple of full sets of frequetly requested teen series to help fill this area . Discussion ensued about who would benefit and what series would be of value . Mr. Long shared that the Collection • Librarians would like to be allowed to use the money as they know what they are looking for and needing. -1 - Library Director Selection -Information was shared with a memo for the Board explaining the process . • Discussion ensued . Mr. Sears is hoping to have the new Director on board by January or February. Until such point, Ms. Carol Wilbur will attend Library Board meetings . New Business No new business at this time . Library Board Chair's Report Mr. Adams apologized for missing last month 's meeting . He is looking forward to re-apply for the Board . He has enjoyed being a part of the Board and hopes to continue with this group . He feels that continuity will help in the future . Library Director's Report Mr. Long thanked City Council for the donation in Roy Altenbach 's name. Mr. Altenbach was a great addition to our community for years . Other New Business Ms . McNutt readdressed the budget. Ms . Pilgrim asked if money could be used for books in Mr. Long's name . Mr. Long would be greatly honored . Discussion ensued . Mr. Penn would like to see some of the money go towards books purchased in Mr. Long 's name . • 10-12: A motion is made that books be purchased with the set as ide amount of $1 ,800 .00 . Of said amount , 50% is used for the Young Adult collection , and the remaining be purchased in Mr. Long 's name for general collections at the discretion of the Reference Librarians. Moved by : Mr. Kruk Seconded by : Ms . Pilgrim The Motion passed unanimously . Members' Choice Mr. Adams -One of his son 's is now attending Charles Hay and there is great excitement happening with ths new program within the School District. Congratulations to Mr. Buchanan on his new job . His is currently onne third of the way through his new book. Mr. Kruk -Softball season just ended and the team won a game. He is looking forward to next season. Mr. Buchanan -He just finished up some training for work and time with family in PA. Mr. Penn -The budget is now completed. The new solar units are completed on the four buildings . These were placed due to the Energy Audit through the State. The panels will take care of 10% of our energy needs . Citizen of the Year process is beginning and Mr . Penn would appreciate input on any possible persons . Holiday Parade will be held on Decmber 4th at 3:00 pm . EHS football is go ing to State! EHS also had the State Championship Band . • Ms Pilgrim -She attended the Kirkland Museum a few Saturdays ago and really enjoyed the displays . -2 - ·• Her daughter found a job and now works at the same place as her brother. She loves her new Bay • window . • • Ms . Carey -She will be going to Washington to see grandparents . She has registered for next year 's classes , including Shakespeare. Ms. Carey is going through manager training at work . Ms . Grazulis -She is now seeing furlough days at the school district. Her store front at the Colorado Antique Gallery and E-bay are getting more attention . Ms . Cogeos -She went to the Kiirkland Museum on Saturday for the free day . It was a crowded but pleasant day . Ms . MccNutt -She has now completed training for her literacy work . She learned how to approach adults with literacy . The training was helpful and impressive . Mr. Long -Thank you Stephanie for the cupcakes and Randy for the candy. Thank you to the Board for the budget assistance , and thank you for the continued support for the Library . Ms . Parker -Nothing at this time. Library Board Chair, Mark Adams adjourned the meeting of the Englewood Public Library Board at 8:22 pm . -3 -
