HomeMy WebLinkAbout2005-09-13 PLB MINUTESCall To Order/Roll Call 1000 Englewood Parkway, Englewood, CO 80110 303-762-2560 Voice 303-783-6890 FAX Minutes Englewood Public Library Board September 13, 2005 Chairperson, Karen Pilgrim at 7:02 p.m , called the meeting of the Englewood Public Library Board to order. PRESENT: L. Cahill, CJ Cullinan, J. Grazulis, K. Pilgrim , C . Ransick, Y. Russell, B. Williams , Council Member, Ray Tomasso. REGRETS: M. Adams (excused), C . McGovern (excused), and School Board member, Mary Dounay. ALSO PRESENT: Hank Long, Library Director and Joan Clayton, Recording Secretary. 05 -16 Motion: That the minutes of the August 16, 2005 meeting be accepted as corrected. Moved by: Chris Ransick Seconded by: Julie Grazulis The Motion passed. The next scheduled meeting of the Friends of the Library is Wednesday September 28, 2005 at 7 p.m. On September 22 at 7 p.m . the Friends will sponsor a travel program, "Fly Cheap, Stay Cheap, Travel Cheap". On Wednesday , October 12 there will be another travel program on Guatemala and Belize. The Book Sale on September 9 & 10 realized a profit of $1,800. This money will be used toward the purchase of DVD 's for the Library to begin a DVD collection. There was a brief discussiorr about the monthly statistics . It was noted that the statistics relating to computer use last year , 2004, was much lower due to printer problems last year . The program statistics for the Children 's librarians will go up with school visits this fall in preparation for ''The Battle of The Books". There was a brief discussion of the article about the University of Texas doing away with books in the university library. Mr. Long handed out the list of holiday dates for 2006 for the Library. In some cases the City is closed for a holiday observation but the Library is open while being closed for the actual day of the holiday. Mr. Tomasso briefly reported on the Budget for 2006 . The City Counc il is looking for ways to save $100 ,000 from the proposed budget to add more for the Contingency Fund. The Council wi ll meet w ith the C ity Manager and Department Heads on Saturday, September 24 to make f inal decisions about the 2006 Budget. Mr. Tomasso added that in Budget discussions it has been stated that the Library's budget has been cut -1 - enough and should not be cut further. Member's Choice Ms. Russell said she and her husband are having a garage sale this coming weekend, Sept. 16 & 17. Ms. Williams said her children are coming to organize her late husband's "stuff". She has found many boxes of minerals, crystals arrowheads and other things that need to be sorted. Mr. Tomasso related the ''Tale of the Stolen Toyota", a story about his stolen car. He has discovered the joys of driving a teenager to and from band practice. Ms. Cahill said life is good. Ms. Grazulis said the March Hare would be closing January 151 h, 2006. She has found a job working at Playnix one day per week. Everything else is fine. Ms. Cullinan said construction continues on . September is Pain Awareness Month. Mr. Ransick said he had done a talk at the Denver public Library about 25 ways to foster reading. He had gathered ideas from family, friends and other literary types and condensed the ideas in to 25 ways to foster reading. He is looking for other places to use his ideas. Ms. Clayton said she is sending out information on the Author Open House in April 2006! Ms. Pilgrim said her daughter is making lists of schools to apply to for next year. There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 7 :45 p .m. -2 -
