PRESENT : M. Adams , L. Cah ill ,Margaret Freeman , J. Grazulis , (a rrived la te) C. McGovern , K. Pilgrim , C. Rans ic k, Y. Russel l, B. W illiams ,(arr ived late), School Board member , Sherry Scaggiari, and Council Member, Ray Tomasso . REGRETS: None ALSO PRESENT: Hank Long , Library Director and Joan Clayton , Record ing Secretary. 06 -06 Motion: That the minutes of the February 14, 2006 meeting be accepted as written . Moved by : Mark Adams Seconded by: Karen Pilgrim The Motion passed . The Friends Big Book Sale realized $2 ,068 from the 3-day sale March 9 -11 .During the Thursday evening hours of the sale there were approximately an extra 700 people in the Library due to the Englewood School Art Show Reception and the Book Sale . The next scheduled meeting of the Friends of the Library is Wednesday, March 22 , 2006 at 7 p.m. Old Business Mr . Long talked about the upcoming 5 year planning process. A facilitator for this process will be chosen soon. Mr. Long will be asking for 3 volunteers from the Board to work with the planning group . He hopes to have 5 meetings in 2006 and 5 in 2007. Days of the week and times are to be determined after a facilitator has been chosen . Mr. Adams indicated he is interested in participating. Ms. Russell and Ms . Cahill both said they would be interested depending on the time of the meetings . Mr . Long expressed congratulations to Mr. Ransick on his appointment as Poet Laureate of Denver. The recent Library database transition has taken place. As with all changes there are some glitches that need to be addressed , however all in all the process went very smoothly. New Business Mr . Long said that the Greater Englewood Chamber of Commerce had contacted the Library Board about the possib ility of sponsoring a student for the ir annual student recogn ition luncheon . The Board has - 1 - sponsored a student in the past. 06 -07 Motion: That the Library Board sponsor an Englewood student at a cost of $45 for the Annual Greater Englewood Chamber of Commerce Student Recognition Luncheon . Moved by: Chris Ransick Seconded by: Yvonne Russell The Motion passed . The Board was reminded of the Author Open House which is coming on Sunday , April 2 . Ms . Clayton asked that the Board arrive at 11 :30 to be in place to greet the Authors at noon for the Reception . Mr. Long said that on Saturday, May 6 the Library will hold its Annual Volunteer Recognition . On March 18th the opening of Hampden Hall will take place with festivities from 6 -7 :30 and a ticketed performance at 7:30 p .m. On March 19 there will be free, ticketed events at Hampden Hall. On that Sunday at 2 p.m . a play written by Englewood teacher , Michelle Grimes will be performed . Ms . Cahill said she had seen the play and it is well worth the time spent to come to the performance . Mr. Long passed out a breakdown of SMART CARD numbers and access levels since the inception of the SMART CARD. A brief discussion followed. Mr. Adams asked about how we attract a Youth Member for the Board. It was suggested that a letter be drafted to the counselors at both the Englewood High School and Colorado's Finest Alternative High School. Ms. Grazulis said she would do this. Member's Choice Ms. Cahill said that the cookie business was good . Her Girl Scout Troop participated in sending 109 boxes of Girl Scout Cookies to Iraq. Ms. Scaggiari said she had mentioned the Book sale at the recent School board meeting . She thanked the Library for hosting the recent Englewood School Art Show and the Art Show Reception. Ms. Williams said she will not be at the April meeting as she is taking a trip to see the tulips in Holland with her daughter. Ms. Clayton said that the Art Show Reception was very enjoyable , the students were unfailing polite and it was fun to watch the young artists show off their art work to their families. She said she would have her MS Walk sheet at the April meeting. Ms. Grazulis said she is working very long and tough hours as a dog kennel manager. Taking care of the kennel and 16 dogs is very time consuming. It is causing a conflict for her with her job and being Board Chair , so she feels she needs to resign as Board Chair . The Volunteer Recognition conflicts with her daughter , Kendra's wedding . Mr. Adams said all is well at his home. He is traveling a lot for work. Ms. Pilgrim said she is enjoying having her son, David home for Spring Break. Ms. Russell said her life is spring skiing! Ms. McGovern said she had finished the 1st semester at the Language Institute. It was a rough semester! There being no further business the meeting adjourned at 7:55 p.m . - 2 -
