HomeMy WebLinkAbout2006-06-13 PLB MINUTES• • Call To Order/Roll Call 1000 Englewood Parkway, Englewood, CO 80110 303-762-2560 Voice 303-783-6890 FAX Minutes Englewood Public Library Board June 13, 2006 Chairperson, Colleen McGovern at 7 :08 p.m, called the meeting of the Englewood Public Library Board to order. PRESENT: Margaret Freeman , C. McGovern , K. Pilgrim , C. Ransick, Y . Russell, B. Williams , and Council Member, Ray Tomasso . REGRETS : M. Adams (excused), L. Cahill (unexcused), J . Grazulis (excused), and School Board member, Sherry Scaggiari (excused). ALSO PRESENT: Hank Long , Library Director and Joan Clayton , Recording Secretary. 06 -16 Motion: That the minutes of the May 9 , 2006 meeting be accepted as amended by Ms. Williams to note that her grandson had graduated from University of Colorado . Moved by: Bervette Williams Seconded by: Karen Pilgrim The Motion passed . The Friends group does not meet over the summer months . The next meeting will be in September. There is a vacancy as president of the Friends. Hiram Wolgemuth who had been Pres ident for a long time has moved to Lafayette . A brief d iscussion about the increased usage of the Internet followed. Mr. Long said that the Food for Fines program had been very successful. Since beginning the program in 1990 , over $27 ,000 in non-perishable items have been donated to lnterFaith Community Services for their local food bank. Ms. McGovern reported on the first meeting of the Five-Year Planning committee. The committee spent time brainstorming about what the Library should look like in the future. More visibility was key in all of the d iscussions. The committee has charged itself to explore Englewood and find out more about the population. Discussion followed amongst the Board about changes in their neighborhoods in Englewood. Mr. Ransick said he had noticed an increase in new babies in his neighborhood. It was noted that the demographics of the school district is changing. There was a brief discussion of ways to promote the library within the community. Ms. McGovern said she would take these suggestions back to the committee. New Business • Ms . Freeman commented on the letter in the packet about cell phone use in the Library. - 1 - Member's Choice Ms. Williams said life is busy. Ms . Russell said she is going to Switzerland soon. She is looking forward to a week in Zurich , music festivals and lots of good food! Mr. Tomasso said he had spent a week in Omaha visiting and going to a wedding. He has now filled 3 , 30- yard dumpsters at his new house. Work is going slowly. Ms. Freeman said she had had a good visit with her father for his 90 1 h birthday last month. She will be back in Texas the end of June and into July. She may or not be back in time for the next Board meeting . Ms . Pilgrim said she is working full time now at the Reading Center, a real adjustment for the family! She will continue to work full time in the fall at the Reading Center . Mr. Ransick said his son; Sean is home for the summer after his first year at college. Mr. Ransick said he would recommend everyone go see Body Worlds at the Museum of Nature and Science. It is a wonderful exhibit. He is enjoying the summer. His garden is doing very well , all organic. Ms . Clayton said she and her husband have had fresh tomatoes from their no -organic garden! She will not be at the July meeting . Ms. McGovern said she is teaching still and has many papers to grade . There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 7:55 p.m. -2 - • • •
